Erm... Where did Troi's baby get the "Y" Chromosone?

Yeah, the sex determiner in other species, such as birds, is the female. It's just as problematic explaining how Betazoids/Vulcans/Klingons and Humans could ever have offspring - cue Carl Sagan quote:

"I think the chance of a man mating with a petunia is much greater than the chance of him being able to mate, much less produce offspring, with an inhabitant of another planet."

How did Carl know? To me, all his work is mere theory, not fact.

As for the Troi question, if a non corporal entity can make itself into a corporal entity I am sure it's able to choose its gender with no difficulty.

So you think a species that evolved on another planet would be able to produce off spring with a human, when species that evolved on Earth can't??????

Maybe Betazoid males are XX, not XY. That's how it is in birds.

What would happen if Luxanna Troi had a XY egg in the slot, and Ian Troi dished up a XY seed?

But then both of the Troi's children were daughters, maybe that is the only way thing can develop in Human-Betazed reproduction.

:)

[pedantic nitpick]Actually, male birds are ZZ and females are ZW. The genes involved are different to those involved in mammalian sex determination.[/pedantic nitpick]

When dealing with totally unknown alien creatures and entities, expect anything possible. :)

The possibility is pretty remote, as is the probability. But I'll try to keep an open, just in case a Orion woman happens along.
