My only beef with Crowe playing the villian is that people might haave seen Crowe on screen and not the character. I know that sounds kinda dumb, but oh well. I think that the casting of Bana is awesome! He has always been one of my favorite actors and I cannot wait to see him step into the role of "Nero" (a character I am convinced is a Romulan...)

Dopey names can be changed right up to the first day of shooting (and thanks to the miracle of ADR, even after shooting!). Dopey actors are harder to work around. Bana is a good pick, and that's what I'm more concerned about at the moment.

I'm not that big on Bana (Didn't like Munich very much and thought Troy and Hulk were both crap) but let's see what happens. Might be interesting.

I can go for this. Bana is at the very least as good an actor as Crowe, but (happily) lacks the monstrous ego and tendency to throw tanties (and phones).
Like just about everything else about this movie to date, it'll be interesting to find out more about who / what he'll play.

I wouldn't be surprised if "Nero" is just a placeholder character name or even a code name to conceal something the real name might give away. It just sounds a little too... unimaginative.
Then again, maybe it's really a lot more literal than any of us realize. The rumor is that Trek XI's plot involves Romulans traveling back in time to alter Earth's history. Maybe the historical figure we know as Nero was actually a time traveling Romulan! That could explain why Romans and Romulans have so many characteristics in common.

He's got the face of a Romulan. I could definitely see him in the ears. But no Rommie bumpy forehead!

That is sweet, but this time I was scooped, although I was proven right on my 'Urban is not the villain' article. I did add a tiny bit of spoilage to my article on Bana.The Stig said:
He's a great actor, no doubt. Funnily enough, I trust PTM's 'Trek Movie Report' more than the official site, and will wait for him to confirm.
