This would have been horribly out of place in First Contact.

The song itself was fine. I'm sure that it would have been rescored with a full orchestra if chosen, but this version is fine.

The opening credits were sleep-inducing to begin with, not including the lame TFF-ripoff music. It reminds me of fucking homecoming or something, not exploration of universe.

But I guess I haven't destroyed enough of my brain cells to appreciate the Lord of all Trek films. Perhaps if I down a whole bottle of Wild Turkey Rare Breed (102 proof) I might actually sit though the whole thing for a change.

Totally inappropriate! I'm glad they stuck with the score they did, although something akin to Brad Fiedel's Terminator theme would also have been quite fitting.

Have you ever heard the bonus LP single that came on the double album of ST III? (Also a track on the CD re-release.)

The disco version of "The Theme from ST III: The Search for Spock". (Yes, my Vulcan friend is dead but I must boogie!")

When it first came out, though, the disc failed to recommend 33rpm or 45rpm on its label, and it sounded weird at both speeds.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Star Trek movie that experiments with electronic music. It can be done in a thoughtful way; it's not all about synthetic drums and pounding beats. It would have to be woven into the movie though, not just one electronic song and than a bunch of orchestral songs. The First Contact Theme (Without vocals) Is decent, although it would have changed the feel of the movie.

Side note: God, I wish Brian Eno had done the music for The Motion Picture. All of the flying through space scenes would be easier to handle because of the engrossing music.

Honestly, this seems it would be more suited for Star Trek The Anime Series than any Trek I've seen, and there's no excuse for the vocals, IMHO. I've always associated Trek music and orchestral, and it doesn't help that I don't like techno.
