Episodes that would look great in HD

I think Encounters at Farpoint would be a choice, too, because if they redo the VFX for that, they have like 50% of all exterior ship shots done already.

That means picking a CGI heavy episode, an outdoor heavy episode, probably a sound stage heavy episode, and a ship episode. Or possibly one of the data/lore episodes to test all of that live action editing/blue screen to have Spiner play multiple parts.

Heh, it strikes me that 'Descent' could accomplish all that at once!.

"Justice"

An opportunity to see young Wesley Crusher skipping gaily across the meadow in glorious living 1080p HD.

Seeing as this is supposed to be a test more than anything, I'd actually expect them to go for very FX-light episodes. They don't know if it will be cost effective yet, and there is less work to be done the fewer FX shots there are.

My completely uninformed guess would be one episode with a fair number of effects and three with hardly any. I'll be very surprised if the always-mentioned BoBW is used.

If memory serves when they redid TOS they went for a lot of the most FX heavy episodes first like "The Ultimate Computer", so there's precedent that they'd do the same thing here.

IIRC they did that in the middle of the TOS-R run. They did do a few episodes where there were a few ships but not a lot of heavy action in the beginning.

Maybe it's just me but for some reason "Preemptive Strike" and "All Good Things..." always are in the highest quality of all the other episodes!

Becareful wishing for your fav episodes first. Those will be the testing ground and they won't have enough money to go back and redo them if they look like stink. Honestly, I how they use the original model shots and just redo the SFX.
