Episode Query

Hello.

Can anyone remember the following and if so what episode was it?

From my childhood I remember watching Star Trek intently and I recall an episode where Kirk and his crew were passing through a passageway. Ahead of them was a closed door. They tried without success to open it. One of the Security Guys in RED though it would be a good idea to use his fazor. He fired from a very acute angle but despite his valliant effort he died. Because his shot was impossibly rebounded back to him and it kill the guard.

This has stuck in my head for 30+years and i'd like some closure.

help?

Hmm.

Doesn't sound familiar, and I'm unable to come up with a sexually suggestive comment to make about it.

Naahh...this never happened.

Thanks for your comments, but i assure you, this part of an episode does exist. I hope there is someone out there with the knowledge i need!

Maybe one of the animated episodes?

Collectively, the good folks here have watched every TOS episode thousands of times.

Sounds vaguely like that first scene in the old 25th Anny VG of Star Trek, doesn't a redshirt fire his phaser and a rock rolls down on him?

Maybe memory is blurring the incidents for the OP?

Well this could be from like any episode really...but the kicker is the phaser rebounding and killing the dude...no it didn't happen..so there is only one solution to this dilemma....you're going to have to rewatch the whole of TOS. Sorry, but there is just no way around it...besides you're quite overdue ....not watching a TOS in 30 years!!! You should be ashamed of yourself!

It's from that 80th episode that only aired once, and then was accidentally thrown away. They've been searching in vain for those tapes for 40 years now.

No seriously, 30 years and childhood can make any memory a bit fuzzy. I'm trying to remember if there's a similar scene as described, only maybe it wasn't the phaser 'rebounding', but rather some other energy weapon/field fired back by whatever he was firing at? Does that sound familiar? Or maybe he fires...or draws his phaser to fire...and then gets vaporized becoming one of those glowing orbs.

Actually, it sounds kinda like that last TNG episode with Wesley where that Captain of a shuttlecraft tries to shoot thru a forcefield for water, and the beam bounces back. Then Wesley does the same thing, while texting on his tricorder.

On that 80th episode, seriously, I've had dreams before where I'm watching TV on some little local channel somewhere at 3:00 in the morning, and suddenly this episode of TOS I've never seen before comes on, and I start scrambling all around the room trying to find a blank VCR tape that's rewound, and all the while all this cool footage is just passing me by. Always wakes me up in a sweat.

The closest I can think is when the redshirts fired on Nomad ("The Changeling") after he broke though the brig forcefield door. Their phaser beams weren't "reflected back", but he zapped 'em right away.

OR...

The scene in "Wink of an Eye" where Kirk, Spock and two redshirts encounter the forcefield protecting the alien freezer unit. They all fire their phasers at it...Kirk and Spock are allowed to pass, but the two redhirts get knocked backwards.

TOS is the only Star Trek I ever watch, and I really do not recall a situation like the one you describe.

Yeah that's what I thought of right away. It's called Final Mission.

Some pics to maybe jog your memory :

Oh yeah and that poor redshirt who phasers the bottom of the rockpile and gets squished in that computer game. (Wish they'd re-release those - so much fun!)

Could it be the bit from Wink of an Eye, when Kirk Spock and the guards are trying to enter the room where the Freezer device is installed, and just as the guards fire phasers, they are struck by the force field???

It's almost unquestionably the season two opener for Space:1999, "The Metamorph." A crew member of Moonbase Alpha manages to kill himself exactly the way described above, by firing his laser pistol at a force field which rebounds and disintegrates him.
One irony is - the crew member's name is "Picard".
