They needed someone who was tall AND sexy AND could pull off the dramatic bits. Newmar was a good choice. Tall, because the Capellans are. Sexy, because she was the Te'er's (sp?) wife. Fontana made her statement about equality: Ele'en became Leonard James Aka'ar's regent, after all.
