He screamed it like he just discovered some rare artifact, and was desperate to claim it, before it was bumped off the edge of a cliff.
I actually think Kras is a good value villain in himself.
But I *can* understand why his nickname in the fandom is 'Bob The Discount Klingon'.
He's like the mementic Homer Simpson of Klingons:
"Smithers, what's this Klingon's name?"
"Kras, sir. He's a mighty Warrior who tried to annexe a planet in the name of the Empire."
"Hmmm, Kras, eh? Never heard of the fellow."

As if, "No one told me there would be Klingons to shoot on sight, because that's how we handle them in Starfleet" Also the "Oops, I think I've been killed" look, too. Somebody just remaster him out of this and the few lines that went with him.

I like Friday's Child as a whole, but "Bob the Discount Klingon" is a perfect name for Kras.
The minute, THE MINUTE, we see Kras...with his balding scalp, Abe Lincoln type beard and faux cringing...it's pretty obvious he's being portrayed as a kind of 23rd century pirate buccaneer.
He's not menacing at all.
Give him a red shirt and khakis with the same hairdo and beard and he looks like he could work at CVS Pharmacy.

The other thing that bugged me is Julie Newmar's vaunted sex appeal to didn't really get to shine through. She was seemed incapacitated most of the time, a sort of damsel in distress. I was too worried about her character to enjoy her beauty or sexiness.
By the way, I voted 6, but in hindsight, that's probably a bit generous. It's more of a 5.

One thing not mentioned yet, is the HUGE respect the Scott character gets in this show. Doohan is absolutely believable as a third in command who goes by the book, as one would, but manages to figure out what happened, and then gets out of a possible battle situation, by being a tough Scotsman who also figures out that the Klingons do not want to start a war over one planet. And in the end, leads the 'calvary' over the hill to save the day in the end.
And all without being the caricature some writers made him.

Hey, she was a haughty pregnant woman...not The Catwoman trying to seduce Batman for the umpteenth time.
Women aren't there to be sexy for you. It's tiresome to see how so many men immediately talk about how hot or sexy an actress is rather than talking about her character. I'm betting Newmar was cast in part because she's quite tall, and the Capellans were supposed to be large people.
Great episode, lots of fun. I said it before and I will say it again, Trek looks best when filmed outdoors in natural light. One of the episode weak points are those few "outdoor" shots obviously filmed on the sound stage.
Tige Andrews makes a great Klingon. Newmar delivers her lines chewing up the scenery "are you warriors or children?" but or her it works. All this and Scotty to the rescue.

This is a show in which female starship officers wear miniskirts. Just sayin'.
Yeah, that's the point--she was cast as someone with not an ounce of her roles on Route 66, Batman or The Monkees, among other parts. Her ST role had her being fairly alien in her delivery--she was not at all like the "typical woman," and her peculiar manner of speaking helped that end result.

Ugh! For crying aloud, do you have any idea? Women are WORSE than guys when it comes to stuff like this.

I have many, many, many female friends---including my wife---and they'll be the first to admit that women are worse than the guys.
It's all in good fun anyway, man, so CHILL.

I can respect if Julie Newmar was stretching her range or whatever, but I was hoping for a sexier role.
And yes, this is a show where the female officers ARE wearing miniskirts 24/7.
So here's my hand, I'll help you get off that high horse.
