Yes, but it's those memorable scores that eventually got Jones the axe. Berman didn't want music that stood out at all.
In early TNG, you can always tell a Ron Jones score, usually before the end of the teaser. There's a distinct melody, for starters. Dennis McCarthy is a fine composer, but a lot of his music is just.... "there". I did enjoy McCarthy's score for Yesterday's Enterprise though, very moody.
