Episode Choice ?

Nero's Shadow

Hi trek fans !!

I have a friend who likes star trek but never seen any episodes of TOS which one or ones should i show him to get the most impact .?

By luck i have them all on blu ray so picture and sound should be no problem, might even swop between the new and old fx shots to get even more impact.

Any suggestions ? NS:techman:

Or the Man Trap - it was often aired first because it introduces most of the characters properly. Where No Man has Gone Before is a really good opener though.

I'd go with "Balance of Terror" or "The Corbomite Manuever". Those were the first two episodes that really proved to me how effectively "Star Trek" could do suspense. The tension in them is masterful. And "Balance of Terror" is just brilliant overall. I think it's probably the all around best episode of that series. It has everything. Action, character exploration, tense and fascinating conversations, and a really riveting story/conflict.

I'd start with:

Where No Man Has Gone Before
The Naked Time
The Enemy Within
Space Seed
Amok Time
Balance of Terror

Then, when your friend is more familiar with it, show him:

Mirror, Mirror
The Trouble With Tribbles
The Doomsday Machine
Metamorphosis
The Cage
The Menagerie
The Enterprise Incident
Turnabout Intruder
Spock's Brain
The Cloud Minders
The Changeling
The Ultimate Computer
Tommorrow is Yesterday
Assingment Earth
The Savage Curtain
The Mark of Gideon

Show him a double bill of WNMHGB and Corbomite, and if he doesn't think TOS is brilliant after that get a new friend.

Hi There

Thanks for the suggestions i,ve decided to go with the following episodes -

1. WNMHGB
2. Balance Of Terror
3. The Man Trap
4. Space Seed
5. The Galileo Seven ( This episode for the new fx shots )

And to finish off 6. The City On Edge Of Forever .

If he likes these there are many more from S1 that are great episodes maybe Devil In The Dark:bolian::techman:

I agree. And, I'd say the exact same thing about The Conscience of the King. It's easily my favorite TOS episode.

I can't believe nobody mentioned it.

"And the Children Shall Lead": one of the most touching, well-executed stories in all of Trek.

I have managed to get my son quite interested in TOS recently. I went in the following order

WNMHGB.
The Man Trap
Enemy Within
Balance of Terror
Dagger of the Mind
Mudds' Women
Charlie X
Naked Time
What Little Girls are Made of

This is as far as we have gotten but he is hooked.

I dealyed Charlie X because I thought it was too similar to WNMHGB. I also delayed Naked Time because I thought he needed a few more episodes to get a better feel for the characters. If he were a girl I would not have delayed it. I moved up Balance of Terror so he wouldn't think Trek was always just cerebral, it had action and war at times too.
