Episode 2 officially starts filming. Director named

Like they created a new timeline after changing everything and giving everything a new look in 1979? If they want to refresh the look and bring it up to date, while still having it in the same timeline, well there's already a precedent for doing so.

I don't think I said I was against the look being updated?

My only point was that I hope the showrunners don't arbitrarily ignore canon. Even the occasional change in canon, or retcon, I'm fine with.

This is where I channel my Inner Curmudgeon and grumble about the modern expectation that we are somehow entitled to a non-stop stream of updates and behind-the-scenes gossip on works-in-progress, months or even years before they debut. In my day, we just read the Fall Preview issue of TV GUIDE to find out about upcoming TV shows, right before they debuted, and didn't pass judgment on them until they actually aired. (And then we walked uphill in the snow . . . both ways!)

Thank God this mentality hasn't extended to books yet:

"Hmm. Greg Cox hasn't posted any notes or outlines or early drafts of his next book yet. What's he hiding?" :)

There's also the fact they ONLY STARTED FILMING JANUARY 24th! People need to get a grip.

While that's all well and good... and I even agree with you both (to a certain extent)

...you're a on a ST *discussion* forum. On the DSC sub-forum specifically.

What do you expect to find, other than speculation, rumors, and innuendo?

But at least we got the amazing, incredible, utterly fascinating "The Menagerie" out of the footage from "The Cage"! :nyah:

Idk how this forum feels about that episode as I'm so new... but I didn't like it. Although I don't think it's as bad as some folk claim- I know some fans despise it.

I thought the Cage was a brilliant episode, the idea was more interesting than 95% of sci fi of the last 10 years. The Menagerie was just extremely predictable because I've already seen The Cage. However, the original audience missed out on the masterpiece The Cage and I think from that perspective it was a really good episode.

They've only now finished the pilot? sigh. 2018 for release then.
I dunno. I feel like the show has finally peaked the hump, and is now steaming along... if not downhill, than at least on a nice flat area.

I believe we'll start seeing announcements of the episodes being completed one after another now, barring any other unforeseen interruptions or losses.

At most, I could see CBS stretching that fall comment to mean *very* late fall, or early winter.

But I do think they're going to try their damndest to get it out this year.

True- but I think "The Cage" had a much better story arch than "The Menagerie" and I think the footage used from TC was wasted.

Although I will admit, I can't think of a much better story-line then the one they used for TM.

My views on respecting the canon fluctuate. Ideally, I'd want a more upgraded view on the future, with holodecks as early as the 21st century but also with more warp speed restrictions, bringing tech dev more in line with the real future. However, since this is not going to happen, I'd like to see something close to TOS, at least in spirit, but maybe also the colorful and minimalist aesthetics. If it's neither, then they may as well redo everything to make it look more cool.

Honestly, my rant was more directed at the internet in general and its unfortunate tendency toward making mountains out of molehills and reacting with alarm to every stray rumor and bit of news.

"Oh, no! There are unconfirmed reports of reshoots and staff changes on SPACE VIXENS IV. It's a train wreck, I tell you! This is proof positive that it's going to be a total disaster!"

In theory, it should be possible to trade news, rumors, and speculation without jumping to wild conclusions all the time. A crazy idea, I know. :)

I was also reacting to the way the internet sometimes seem to get positively indignant about not being kept in the loop on all the behind-the-scenes stuff:

"SPACE VIXENS debuts next year and we still haven't got a synopsis or trailer yet! How are we supposed to pass judgment on the show months in advance if they don't tell us everything as soon as possible? We demand total transparency regarding everything that goes on backstage!"

Patience has its virtues sometimes.

Do you see it as a remake of the changeling?

No. I see it for what it is, a reimagining that throws a bone to long time fans. At one point there was talk of bringing in well known big-screen actors of the time to play Kirk and Spock.

I wouldn't be so confident in such a postulation if I was you.

Its a TV show. It'll get here when it gets here. I would hate to see the handwringing going on if there had been widespread internet availability during TNG's startup.

There's even green screen on the floor...
