Ep 2-23 Regeneration - Borg Survivors?

Crewman47

Commodore
Newbie
At the end of the episode we see the Borgified Transport ship get destroyed and killing the Borg drones on board, but what about the two Tarkalean drones that were blown out into space earlier by Archer from the Enterprise?

Assuming that they hadn't been assimilated enough to protect them in the vacuum of space, wouldn't the nano probes survive for a good length of time or go dormant like they did with the Borg drones from Antarctica and pose a threat if anyone were to come across them and accidently reactivate them?

Yes, if they are discovered, anybody who comes into contact with them is screwed.

However, it is also possible that the Borg might not be picked up. They would appear to be dead and anybody with half a brain cell would be concerned about what "killed" them (contagion?) and why their bodies were released into space.

Good point. :bolian:

You just automaticly think that the drones have died, but maybe they survived, they could have been picked up by a cube that we dont know about, say one that was on a mission and found the drones, they could be some of the first drones the Borg assimulated.

When the transport left earth they should have beamed a couple drones down to a populated area and start assilating people, from there the assimilation would spread like a virus.

Also the the drone attack party should not have beamed back to the transport when the bombs went off. The crew of the Enterprise could not stop them, they should have stayed and assimilated and taken over the Enterprise, especially if the transport was damaged. Enterprise has better technology and whould have made a better ship for the borg. I know they probably beamed back to help fix the transport but if they stayed and disabled the Enterprise from attacking the transport further they could have had 2 ships.

With no protection from radiation the drone nano's would eventually be killed. At some point, 1000's of years in the future they might finally get sucked into a sun or be pelted by fast moving debris.

A remark was made (by Anthony Pascale I think) during the audio commentary on First Contact Blu ray.

Just after Picard sends a Borg flying off the deflector dish.

Basically that centuries later, the Abramsverse E could come along and have a Borg corpse slam into its windshield!

nuKirk: "Mr. Chekov. As Ensign, and youngest person on the bridge, it's your duty to go out and wipe that off."

sometime later

Redshirt: (watching the Russian silently screaming) "Glad that's not me."

Humor aside, that drone wouldn't have orbited the Earth for "centuries." It would have fallen into the atmosphere long before then.
Ah well. I guess they'll just have to find another excuse to put Chekov off the ship, with a windex spray and a squeegee then!
