Before I start posting links, I'll be nice & give you the opportunity to retract this statement.

If you don't, I will crush you.

Okay, then... if you honestly think that we can build a matter/anti-matter powered faster-than-light-propelled starship, today, complete with deflector shields, phasers, artificial gravity, etc, etc... I welcome your "crushing" attempts.

Knock yourself out.

I've already posted links to teleporters, warp drive, ship building, etc. The search function should find them again.

:guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw: Pure utter fantasy...for now anyways. It'll be decades, maybe centuries and maybe never before we have that stuff. :guffaw: :guffaw: :guffaw: You gotta be joking.

Nope. The links I was going to post (before the server rejected it) was from science facilities & universities where preliminary experimentation has ALREADY BEEN DONE.

Thus, all that needs to be done at this point is for some company to run with it. Most of this stuff is from the 70's, 80's & 90's & is more than ready. Whether businsses are ready & whether the public is ready remains to be seen.

.....Next you'll be trying to insist anti-matter doesn't exist.

Direct Contradiction = You're bullshitting everyone. One warning for trolling.

Not again........Did you search my previous posts?

No, you did not.

Did I attempt to post the links a SECOND TIME?

Yes, I did.

I EXPECT AN IMMEDIATE CORRECTION!

Just remember ... ILM painted over the original pearlescent finish of the motion picture Enterprise to make it easier for them to photograph. I'm not especially keen on them touching the ship again in any incarnation.

They also tended to throw functionality out the window with their original Trek designs:

Reliant: inaccessible torpedo room

Excelsior: deck on the upper primary hull with a long tail only wide enough for a corridor and nothing else

Grissom: inaccessible lower hull

Bird of prey and ST III merchantman: no discernible warp engine nacelles.

Ex post facto rationalizations can be made for all of these "features"--automated torpedo room, lower hull is a sensor pod, etc--but that's an inferior substitute for thinking things through in the first place.

I have a feeling all of that was done in an attempt to make cool looking ships...

ILM didn't design Reliant; Mike Minor did.

I stand corrected. The other examples still apply, though.

It better not be redesigned!

The only thing that should change is picture quality

Re: Enterprise will appear in next Trek film; ILM doing effe

I wonder who has the final say in something like this...

I am not emotionally attached to the origninal model so much that a redesign would crush me, so I'd like to see what a brilliant young mind could do to an otherwise dated model.

Thank goodness it isn't the fans...otherwise the movie will never be made!

Re: Enterprise will appear in next Trek film; ILM doing effe

Amen! Too much debate.

It's better that the decision fall in the hands of someone that isn't as...excitable...as a hardcore Trekker; we can be heartless when it comes to other peoples opinions sometimes.

Re: Enterprise will appear in next Trek film; ILM doing effe

I think the remastered episodes show that the original design still has merits. They only need to make it look more real and less cartoony...

I'm in 100% agreement! The remastered episodes rule!

In what way, specifically, do you feel that the TOS Enterprise is "dated"?

And please feel free to provide examples comparing the ship to real 23rd Century spacecraft to show us any important design features that the classic TOS design is lacking or has gotten wrong.

Asshat.
i was going to answear this right and had written quite long reply put couldnt post it because stupid invaild sumission and lost it:mad: so ask you would you put batmobil in 1960s in Batman Begins? it is same thing if you put orginal ENT in xi.

Re: Enterprise will appear in next Trek film; ILM doing effe

Basically, since no one here's involved in the actual decision-making progress, that I'm aware of, and board debates don't count, it's pretty much a moot point anyway. All of this "I/We Want/Demand" type mentality's useless, as if they carry the weight of a Papal Bull or Royal Edict or something. Well, they don't, folks.

The Classic Enterprise will return, slightly updated, but still quite recognizeable. Much more detailed, and intricate than in the 1960s, but still the one and only NCC-1701 [no bloody A, B, C, or D].

obviously J.J. Abrams has the final say.

J.J. is a fan, but not neccessarily 'hardcore'. JJ will be guided in his decision by Production Designer Scott Chambliss who is not really a fan and by producer Damon Lindelof...who is a 'rabid fan'. I imagine the writers (who are also exec producers) and are very much rabid fans will also chime in.

I do know that there will be changes, but I dont think they will be that radical.

Well, seeing as how "Batman Begins" wasn't supposed to be a remake or continuation of the 1960s "Batman" series, the answer is a resounding: No, I wouldn't do that, and the two situations aren't remotely comparable for the reason I just gave. JJ is a fan of The original Trek series, and is doing a TOS-based movie. It seems likely that he plans on re-creating that same vision, rather than creating an entirely new one, so his use of original TOS designs is warranted.

And you haven't answered the question. What is there about the TOS Enterprise that is "dated". What 60s' design conventions are at play that clash with modern design conventions? How can anyone say that the design elements of the TOS Enterprise clash with 23rd century design conventions, when no one knows what those design conventions will be?

Re: Enterprise will appear in next Trek film; ILM doing effe

With batman, it's kinda different -- you have the TV show (I <3 it, BTW) and the comics. They exist in a parallel universe so to speak. The comics were always darker than the 1960's TV show, so with the batman movies, they didn't "redesign" by going with a darker vision so much as choose the *comic* over the TV show.

You really can't compare that to Trek, because there's only ONE version.

Re: Enterprise will appear in next Trek film; ILM doing effe

Actually there are four versions ;)

1. The Cage Enterprise ( Larger bridge dome, spires on the caps, no spinning lights, grills on the ends )

2. Where No Man Has Gone Enterprise ( Smaller bridge dome, no spires on the caps, spinning lights, no grills on the ends )

3. The Man Trap & Onward Enterprise ( Same bride dome, same caps, same spinning lights, balls on the ends )

4. The Motion Picture & Onward Enterprise. ( Total Refit )

Yes TMP counts as part of TOS, at least in my book ;)
