Enterprise shooting model

Evening all. My first post on here.

I have always been a huge fan of the movies featuring the original crew and they are probably my favourite part of the whole franchise. I could go on all night about the reasons why, but perhaps I will leave that for another thread. But I have a question for those in the know.

Does anyone know what happened to the 8-foot studio model of the Enterprise that was used for those films? I know it sold at the 40th Anniversary auction in 2006 for a considerable sum, but I've been all over the Internet and cannot find where it is now. I hope it's being well looked after, because I always thought that model looked beautiful on film. Such a majestic looking design. I know the effects crews thought that model was a bit of a pain because it was so heavy and awkward to work with, but I wish filmmakers would go back to using more physical models as they did back then, rather than relying so much on CGI these days…but that's another discussion for another thread!

IIRC both the Enterprise A model and the Enterprise D model are in the collection of Paul Allen.

Who is Paul Allen? I ask because that is my uncle's name, Nd he is a well-to-do Star Trek fan. It would be a hell of a coincidence.

The
Paul Allen, co-founder of Microsoft.

If it turns out he's your uncle, that really would be quite a coincidence.

Paul does not own the Enterprise-A. There is speculation that its Jeff Bezos at his space transport company, which IIRC is called Blue Origin. The OTHER speculation is that it is with Ben Stiller (who is a big fan).

Paul Allen definitely owns the 6-foot Ent-D. It used to be on display at the Science Fiction Museum in Seattle, which is basically a place for Allen to put portions of his collection out for public enjoyment.

Whoever has the Ent-A obviously has no interest in showing it off (or in even restoring it), otherwise we'd have heard something about it by now. So that tends to rule out Allen, Bezos and Stiller.

anyone ever been to the planet hollywood in NYC? I only ask because when I went there with family 15+ years ago they had a giant model of the Enterprise A on display. Could it be the one you are looking for? There was also a cardassian phaser rifle prop improperly labeled as a "Predator Rifle" from the movie Predator. They also had the shooting model of the batwing from batman 1989 IIRC. I remember taking pictures of them bc i thought they were so cool. I looked like such a dork standing next to them lol. They also had a giant death star in the downstairs lobby.

I seem to remember that the Planet Hollywood version was a weird mix of the TMP and Phase II versions of the model.
The Planet Hollywood Enterprises were made by Brick Price's Wonderworks largely from the Star Trek [Phase] II molds modded to be more TMP refit-like.

What about the owner of the E-D?
Last I've heard, the actual shooting model of the Enterprise-D, some years back, had been lent out to some type of a restaurant where the proprietors hung it above their grill - the one they actually cooked greasy foods with. There they put it and there it had stayed for ... quite a stretch of time. Resultantly, the "D" had a nice scab of hardened grease all over it. There was also minor damage to the model, itself. Then, some-how, it was mysteriously returned. It was not cleaned straight away, by the Paramount people. In fact, they crated the model as-is and put it in storage. This might've been about ten years ago, maybe. In any event, it's back where it belongs. What shape is it in, now? Your guess is as good as mine.

Memory Alpha has wonderful articles on most of the Trek miniatures, including the three Enterprise-Ds. Aside from the screen-used four-footer being abused in a restaurant, at least a dozen duplicates were created from the same molds which were sold as limited editions, and also had a habit of showing up in Planet Hollywood restaurants and the like. They could tell the shooting miniature was the one damaged from grease smoke and not one of the copies because it was still dressed as the Venture from "The Way of the Warrior."

THERE SHE IS!!

There she is... and not so wounded as we were led to believe...

She's at the 'Blue Origin' think tank in Kent, Washington, in the hands of Jeff Bezos.
