Enterprise Ship's Emblems TOS and Movie

My ship is the USS Geronimo, NCC-76881. She's a Sullivans class tactical frigate, and a friend was kind enough to make a dedication plaque for me a while back. The design has been floating around in fanon for a number of years, and unfortunately I'm not sure exactly where it originated so I can give proper credit. But here are a few images that might be useful references. I've always liked this design.

It did occur to me that, seeing what you've done with the USS Buckeye's logo, perhaps something incorporating New Mexico would be fitting for a ship named after Geronimo? His tribe lived in what is now that area and Arizona, IIRC. Thanks in advance.

I love the design for the Sullivans Class, I have some really wicked ideas on what to do with your ships logo. With luck I'll have it posted up sometime tomorrow. Thank you for the oppertunity to work on it.

Thank you. I unfortunately suck when it comes to most forms of art, so I'm glad to have someone do stuff for me occasionally. From what I've read (Tigger included the class in his excellent http://www.asbd.netASDB work - sadly, the link seems to be gone or moved now), the ship is essentially a modern replacement for older designs like the Miranda and the Soyuz, and is designed to handle border defense and incursions. It's one of the few designs that is heavily geared for tactical duties, due to conflicts with the Borg and the Dominion, but is capable of exploratory roles as well. The registries for the class tend to run in the 78000 range, so I'm glad mine happens to fit in with that pretty well. I thought the name was fitting for this sort of ship, and Geronimo was very brave in his defense of the Apache. The registry was pretty easy - G is the seventh letter of the alphabet, and the other digits reversed are 1886, the year he finally surrendered to the American government. The ship's motto came from Omega Supreme, because he's badass.

BTW I love the back story on how you came up with the USS Geronimo. No promises, but I do think that I have some really good hi-res 3-D images of the USS Sullivans that a friend of mine did about 2 years ago. If I can find them, I'll pass them onto you.

Awesome! Thanks so much. I did find the link to the ASDB I was looking for; not sure where my brain's been tonight, but I clearly shouldn't post when I should be in bed.

Montresor and I did a couple variations on the plaque, and I'm grateful that he did that for me. He's a pretty cool guy and a very good artist, and unfortunately he doesn't post as much anymore. I came up with the crew and other information and he did the image. We finally agreed that it looked best with the crew's nationalities, since I don't have the talent to draw them. Lt. Sendant attended Starfleet Academy as a part of a special exchange program with the Romulan Empire, and is a fully commissioned officer. In the wake of the Dominion War, the Federation has made more attempts to bury a few old hatchets and prevent such chaos from happening again. Commander Callis is unjoined at present.

NimitzCO, I'd like to make a suggestion regarding the Geronimo; get rid f the Zia symbol. Geronimo was an Apache; the Zia is the symbol of Zia Pueblo, and speaking as both a New Mexican (the state that has adopted the zia as our logo) and as a descendant of members of both tribes, members of neither tribe would be quite so happy to see that symbol and that name together, even nearly four hundred years from now.

It was never my intention to offend anyone with the logos that I posted, so I made the decision, based on the information that you provided, to remove the logo for the USS Geronimo from photobucket at this time. As not to leave Unicron in the lurch, I will do a complete reworking of the USS Geronimo for him. I apologize for any misunderstandings or inconviences.

Up next, after I'm done with the USS Geronimo redesign, I'm going to go work on completing the emblems for the 12 Constitution Class Starships so far I have 9 of them done, when I complete the last 3 I'll be posting them all in one shot. In the meantime, I am still doing custom designs for your own Starships so don't be shy and post your requests. After all some days I have nothing better to do at work and I need the distraction.

I could not agree with more, unfortunatley, this seems to be the case with most ST fan clubs, they start out very strong and then members seem to loose interest, this is what happend to my fan club back in the late 80s early 90s. I atribute this to the "lack of popularity" that the general public has with the Star Trek franchise in general. By comparison, look at the Star Wars fan clubs out there like the 501st Legion, there members are constantly in demand from groups all over the world for conventions, parades, etc. Due to the fact of the public's overwhelming knowledge of the Star Wars franchise. Hopefully all of that will change with the re-imagined JJ Abrams movie so that we all can get back to our former glory.

Data, you might be right about the O'Bannon chapter being the origin of the design; I used to belong to another chapter of Starfleet International, and unfortunately I'm not sure if the O'Bannon is still active or not.

Well I was just going through the O'Bannon's website and it looks like they are still an active chapter, the copyright was renewed to 2009 and the last update was December 2008.
