Enterprise Novels

Hey guys,

What's the concencus on the Enterprise novels? I wasn't a huge fan of the series but I thought it had some good potential. Are the novels awesome, lame, or hit and miss? Should I read them all in order or does it matter? Thanks everyone

Hit and miss for sure. I like the books that take place during the series more than the post season books.

As far as the books that take place during the series go I think my favorite of the bunch is Rosetta. Second place is Last Full Measure which also serves as a bridge to the post series books. Rest of those books range from forgettable to OK at best. For the post season books The Good that Men do is OK then they fall far and fast after that.

As far as reading order goes, the books that take place during the series can be read in any order, well you'll want to read the Daedalus duo in order. And the Martin/Michaels books are meant to be read in the published order. Don't know what happens if you read those out of order since they do tell an ongoing story.

Just the opposite for me - can't be doing with the in-series stuff but am enjoying the continuations, especially The Romulan War.

Horses for courses I'd say...

I loved Enterprise, but I can't stand the post-series novels. I think the writing's boring and I hate the direction it's gone in. It's the Romulan Bore. I've stopped reading. The incident with the "real" Kobayashi Maru was such a waste of something I'd been waiting for since Enterprise premiered.

Dave Stern's novels set during the series are far, far better. Daedalus and Daedalus' Children (set toward the end of season two) are, IMO, the best. I loved them. Followed by Rosetta which was good and then What Price Honor? which was okay.

The first original Enterprise novel, By the Book, is strange - half of it's spent in the mess hall as some background crewman play a tabletop RPG set on Mars. Although it wasn't as bad as that sounds, you can skip that one.

I jumped into Beneath the Raptor's Wings without reading any of the prior post-finale Enterprise novels and had no trouble following it.

I could tell if I'm going to like an author's book just by looking at him. Is it just me? or do they resemble what they do and how they do it?

Hahaha! Is that why Pocket rejected your submission? :rommie: ;)

Sorry, you really walked into that.

I've certainly had the opposite situation. I loved Larry Niven's "Known Space" books, including "Ringworld" and other novels and short stories featuring the kzinti, so much. So vibrant, witty, involving! And when I finally got to meet the author, he was a dry, humorless, uninterested man. I was so disappointed. Luckily for me, I met him again a few years later and this time he was in a pub, and he was a lot more fun.

I like the Enterrpise Novels that took place during the serres and the Relaunch novels I can't wait to read the new book that comes out in a few weeks.:techman:

Nice one, Therin, but I think that'e why they closed the open submissions policy at the studios. Too many Klingons from another dimension. It's only a matter of time before Pocket does the same as I already have the schematics for the building. It's up the elevator shaft, through a vent to Ed Schlesinger's office. Overwhelmed? Ha! :guffaw:

Same for me. I found them crap prior to Last Full Measure, but rather liked that book and I've really enjoyed the whole relaunch series - The Good That Men Do, Kobayashi Maru and the first Romulan War book. The conclusion to the Rom War comes out later this month and I can't wait for it. Realistically, it's probably the last Enterprise novel we'll get for a long while. But at least the relaunch series finishes off the TV show storylines.

How about an incognito literary agent?

That's a contradiction in terms. The whole value of literary agents is that they have connections in the publishing industry, that editors know them and vice-versa. If editors know and trust a literary agent, they're more likely to trust that the agent's clients are worth taking a chance on.

I was going to say, with a David Mack mask on, but since I was handed an infraction last week, I decided not to. Also because I'm afraid of David Mack.

I like the Enterprise tv Novelization The Expanse byJ.M.Dillard and Rosetta the whole crew is involved in the book.I like the fact you get to see how Hoshi was written and dealing with a major mystery of an alien civilization. and the of Course Last Full meaure and the Good that mean do and the Romulan relaunch novels

I would really like to see some books featuring various encounters of Klingons by the Enterprise crew.

Today is a Good Day to Buy
A good Klingon Story

^^The Romulan War books (or at least Beneath the Raptor's Wing) feature Klingons. Mind you, in a very minor role.

I was really entertained by Beneath the Raptors Wing when I read it. I've been waiting almost a year for the next book in the series, which FINALLY releases this month. Already have it pre-ordered for my Kindle.

Surprised to see all the hate towards the Romulan War storyline. I rather like it, including the little plot point explaining why Enterprise looked more modern than TOS. It was a nice touch.
