Enterprise Novels

I just finished watching Enterprise (the entire series) for the first time and I have to say, I loved it! I simply do not see why so many people seem to have so much hostility against it. Well, except for that absolutely God-awful finale, but that's another discussion. I went into the series with very low expectations, but it definitely won me over. So much so that I'm prepared to say it might be my second favorite series (DS9 will always be #1).

I've never been that into the novels, having only read a handful like "Federation," the "Imzadi" novels, and a small sampling of others (like "The Romulan Stratagem" and "The Lives of Dax"). The relaunchs of TNG, DS9, and VOY have always appealed to me. But I'm such an amazingly slow reader that it would literally take me years upon years to catch up at this point.

However, I am VERY interested in reading the Enterprise novels that continue on with the story after the series. I know that only a small set of the 13 ENT novels do so, but I'm unclear as to which ones. Therefore, I don't know where to start.

I'm not interested in the novelizations of episodes or any stand alone novels that don't continue the story, just the relaunch (if that's the right word for it). Any suggestions as to where to begin?

The first Enterprise book I read was The Good That Men Do, which provides a nice antidote that suckfest of a series finale. There's some crossover with DS9, which you'll find an added incentive. I've subsequently followed each of the two follow-up books and try to hunt down previous novels over eBay or Amazon traders because the older titles tend to be hard to find.

I never really bothered with the books, while the show was on the air and I imagine most fans like me, heavily into it were the same. But lately, I've really started to miss it (more than unusal) and I already know most of the episodes (and their faults admittedly) inside and out, after an altogether unhealthly level of DVD rewatching.

I'm currently chomping at the bit, waiting for the latest book to land on my doorstep... with a fairly heavy thud I imagine.

The Enterprise Relaunch novels to date are:

The Good That Men Do, Kobayashi Maru and The Romulan War: Beneath the Raptor's Wing.

There's also some foreshadowing in the pro- and epilogue of Last Full Measure, but it's pretty much separated from the rest of that book.

It's always great to welcome a new ENT fan. The series seems to be more popular now than when it was on TV.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe this is a list of the ENT relaunch books:

Last Full Measure
The Good that Men Do
Kobayashi Maru
The Romulan War: Beneath the Raptor's Wing

Last Full Measure almost seems like a stand alone book until the very end. I may not have read it unless I looked at a spoiler about it. However, the last few pages are well worth it as far as the ENT relaunch is concerned--it kind of launches the relaunch--and it's a pretty good story, too.

The books that take place after the finale are (in order):
- The Good That Men Do
- Kobayashi Maru
- The Romulan War: Beneath the Raptor's Wing (trade paperback)

Additionally, the book Last Full Measure, while set during season 3, is written by the same authors, and introduces some characters that play a part in the post-finale books. There's also a teaser in there about the shape of things to come.

So far I've only read The Good That Men Do but I simply loved it. It sooo makes up for that crazy finale with a tongue in cheek manor I might add. Run out and pick it up today!:scream::)

Me too and I agree. I really hated the ENT finale, but when I heard a little spoiler about the ENT-relaunch books, I figured I'd give it a try with TGTMD. I liked it, and have recently picked up the next part, Kobayashi Maru, which is currently in my to-read pile

I've read the first two, and I really enjoyed them. Although I didn't enjoy Kobayashi Maru quite as much as TGTMD. I've haven't gotten ahold of BTRW yet, but most of the reviews here have been pretty positive so I'm excited to read it.

I've read them all and while I don't consider them the best as far as Treklit goes I do love Enterprise and that will mean I buy and read every one of them. Rom Wars hasn't come out here yet but I am looking fwd to it greatly.

This is the show that I miss the most and I'm thrilled to read the novels.

Wasn't Rosetta also a post series novel?

Not quite. It takes place just before "Demons"/"Terra Prime" (i.e. more or less during "In a Mirror, Darkly") and leads into it, in that it shows Hoshi perfecting the translator technology that's used at the conference in those episodes.

Thanks everybody. I think I'll start with Last Full Measure, don't want to miss anything ;)

I find this novel hard to find. It might be out of print. Amazon.ca didn't even have it.

I just started The Good that Men Do, and its been awesome so far.

Although, I would prefer if the books just ignored the final episode (like i do) and continue the series without trying to repair that stupid episode.

A place that has used copies of Last Full Measure is link http://www.Bookfinder.com Some of the Independent salers charge way too much for used Enterprise novels. The Enterprise book Daedalus' Children book2 by Dave Stern is $133.00 dollars:eek:.Advanced Book exchange also has copies of Last Full Measure for sale at different prices too.

Well, what we saw in "These are the Voyages" was a historical reconstruction, devised decades after the fact, and probably originally based on second and thirdhand data. Hell, they even got the date wrong (Riker's simulation is set in 2161; seven years after the "Terra Prime" incident, and after the Romulan War).

I find it fully possible that it's what Riker believes happened.

That's the only way I can choke it down.

Still, I would rather them ignore it and not making tweaking their books to that episode. I would have liked them to continue the series as if it was a season 5, after and only after Terra Prime. I might be a pick and choose fan, but that episode is the real series finale.

YES!! And then we might have avoided all this separated-by-secrets-and-space angst between T'Pol and Trip which is just so cliched. Especially that part where they got to do it in the shuttle before being separated again.

I wish these kind of story lines would just wank off into Twilight land and leave Trek alone.

Or you can think of TATV as an alternate universe episode. Considering that absolutely EVERYTHING looked completely off in that episode, simply declaring it AU would have been entirely reasonable, IMO.
