Enterprise-D Bridge Concept Large Version

I like your solution for the ceiling, as well as the different lighting between the foreward and rear section. I'm not sold on the table thing in front of the captain. I know there's something there on the top-down diagram but it seems really awkward, especially if the captain wants to get up and speachify. The kinks at the rear ends of the couches also feel out of place with how smooth the rest of it is.

I've never been able to get my head round that: the Battle Bridge always feels about half the size of the Ent-A bridge to me.

I believe it is. They walled off the sides of the 1701 (refit, not -A) bridge to create the Battle Bridge Ready Room, as can be seen in Stage 9's recreation:

That, plus darker lighting, adds to the cramped feeling.

That is wild to see. Really brings to life the difference between a preproduction sketch (as great as Probert is!) and what would happen if the thing being sketched were actually built! This is really great of you to make the effort to build it for everyone to see.

To me this big large4 bridge could be used for plesure cruise ships staying within safe zones in the UFP :)

Yeah, it seems odd that the table was put there since the entire point of the split consoles was to allow the captain easy access to the viewscreen. But the couches along the front and sides of the console were there for lounging around and the description says the console was a coffee table/viewscreen. I think I'm going to make the table rise from the floor. That way when guests drop by they can can have a table to hang out at. But on serious missions it's not in the way.

I got to say, I'm glad the original concept Bridge wasn't used. It's too big.

Those con stations in front of Picard are ugly.

That table behind them is unsightly and badly placed. I'm assuming that's the Conference table; having it in a separate room gave a change of scenery and a place for characters to talk apart from the rest of the crew if needed.

A second platform is just unnecessary. And to all it serves is:
1: A place for bad guys to gun down the Captain and second in command in the back from above.
2: A place for crew members to fall to their deaths when the ships shakes or a panel blows.

The steps, while cool looking, are just another dramatic thing for people to fall down. Instead of tuborlifts, it would have been stairs Geordi was falling down.

Too much empty space. Make the set look lonely, especially in potential dramatic moments.

The view screen -- too much view screen. Sure they could have done what "The Orville" does and have a rectangular window open on the screen for communications, but it looks ugly on TO and it certainly would have looked ugly on TNG.

And I still don't see a bathroom door. ;-)

The ceiling's slope seems a little too drastic in front for me. Someone on the second level can barely see the viewscreen, all they've got to look at is the lights shining back at them unless they're peeking over the railing. The sketch makes me feel like the screen is a whole two levels, or very nearly.

As for the design itself, I feel like it'd might be an interesting "admiral's bridge," someplace that's very big-picture and more for meetings and discussions than for actual nuts-and-bolts operations of the ship. Or maybe a bridge/situation room for the UFP President's ship, someplace equally suited for diplomatic receptions as monitoring a Borg invasion.

On the sketch it looks as if there's light radiating from behind the top of the wall up onto the ceiling.

Thanks.

Yeah, could be. In any case I'd love to just hang out there.

Yes, I can see why a separate, more private conference room would be preferable. However, this is the future so maybe they just have a forcefield Cone of Silence around the table.

Well, isn't that their most important function anyway? Can you imagine how much more impactful it would be if in Hide and Q, Worf threw that Klingon woman off the top balcony.

Yeah, all that space may be bad for a production, but I do like it as a physical space.

And I still don't see a bathroom door. ;-)

Hey, maybe that's what the upper platforms is. One giant bathroom.

The ceiling's slope seems a little too drastic in front for me. Someone on the second level can barely see the viewscreen, all they've got to look at is the lights shining back at them unless they're peeking over the railing. The sketch makes me feel like the screen is a whole two levels, or very nearly.

I think it's pretty close. In the drawing the man is standing pretty much directly under the rim of the viewscreen and it's about twice as tall as he is. But the ceiling above the figure standing on the upper level is almost twice as tall as he is. So there's definitely some height above the viewscreen. Though I agree with the practicalities you mentioned.

That's a great idea, actually. You could fit a ton of tactical data on that viewscreen. And you have some nice benches to lounge on while you view it.

On the sketch it looks as if there's light radiating from behind the top of the wall up onto the ceiling.

Yes. I have that in my model, but even if I bump the emissions way up it's still not enough to light that command area.

Wow, that some impressive work!

That being said, I can see why they went with a different design. Imagine:

Picard (yelling at the top of his lungs): NUMBER ONE! WHAT IS YOUR ASSESSMENT?

Riker (at the other end of the bridge): WHAT WAS THAT? I COULDN'T HEAR YOU?

Yet somehow people on the bridge manage to talk to engineering without yelling across the ship....

Don't mean to necropost, but I was wondering if there's been any development of this project since last post? I've been very eager and curious to see how this concept would flesh out were it made and I really liked what I saw. If this post is violating some necro-posting rule, admins feel free to delete.

Hey @starfleettanner I haven't done much more work on this yet, but it has been on my mind. I need to making some videos about my other Trek projects and do some more modelling on my Enterprise project. So if there's any time left over I'll be able to work on this.

yeah I saw that too. It's interesting seeing their interpretation of it.

That's EXACTLY the reason why I'm so interested in seeing a 3d version of the concept come to life. I love how that comic strip is using full Probert designs, even using the now named Narendra class ship design with the cruise ship bridge.

Well whenever you do decide to get back at it, would love to see the finished results. And the great thing about it is, you can have some creative liberties at your disposal, since we've only seen the concept in drawings.
