ENTERPRISE-A project - Helm

Star Trek Apolgist

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
I have started my replica of the Enteprise A from Star Trek 5 and 6. I could build the Transporter room aby this point if I had money and a place to build it. I will be providing resources on this in the future. But my Images are not yet read for publishing. But this video does give an early look at what I have.

Is it fanart because I made this prototype on Poster board, or because reproductions belong in Fan Art?
I'm sorry, but I'm not sure I understand the question. And to be honest, I have some trouble understanding what it is you are talking about in your original post. Are you building a reproduction of a Star Trek console? If yes, what else could it be other than Fan Art?

This is an admirable project!

Yes, basically all reproductions that are not fanfilm stories belong in Fan Art.

Looking forward to seeing where this goes.

I think the problem is that "Fan Art" sounds belittling ... some of the work done here exceeds the professional efforts we see on-screen. It used to be "Trek Art" along with "Web Sites", "Fan Fiction", and "Trek Literature". It made sense to reorganize a bit, but I think calling this section simply "Art" would have been less offensive if read a certain way.

I believe the difference is that this forum is for art (reproductions, paintings, renderings, sculptures, set recreations, uniforms, etc.) created by people other than production staff or official employees of the rights holders (well, @Donny is an exception, but he posts what he does in his free time here, not his official work) while official art (merchandise, production drawings, set pieces, etc) would go into their appropriate show's/movie's forum or General Trek.

I guess don't see it as offensive to myself. I'm a fan. I tend to create works based on a franchise I love. Eh.

It was changed from "Trek Art" to "Fan Art" because we wanted to welcome all forms and subjects of art, not just Trek. There were far too many people asking "This isn't Trek, can I post it here?"

As for the OP, nice work so far! Please keep us updated on your progress!

I hope the above debate didn't discourage you from continuing. I hope you're able to see this through.

I had planned a couple of decades ago to build a scale paper model of the bridge and had even printed out a prototype helm console (no base yet):

I think this is scaled to 3-3/4-inch figures (1:19.2).
