Looks like Cupid wants to join the Avengers.
a perfect example of modern overkill-mentality. I guess we can consider ourselves lucky that Cupid doesn't use a rocket launcher nowadays. O tempora, o mores!

Even if it were a rocket launcher, it Cupid, he doesn't kill (also, a crossbow isn't that far a leap from his standard weapon). I think of it as Cupid's attempt to break through that hard exterior that some shield their hearts behind.
I'm surprised nobody has entered a picture of Aphrodite (from the Xena/Hercules TV shows).

But you're totally right. Nobody thought of any of the classical love deities like Ishtar, Inanna, Hathor, Cliodhna, Sjöfn, Rati, Mama Wata, Erzulie etc.

Aphrodite wasn't expected to have a husband. The goddess of married women was Hera.
