ENTER: Misc Avatar Contest: "Temples"

It took me awhile to think of one, though honestly, I don't know why I didn't think of this sooner:

I'm not a religious or even a spiritual person, but I am half Native American, and I think that's part of why this church spoke to me. It spoke to me so much so that when I was in Puebla, I climbed to the top of the pyramid, and then to the top of the church wall to sit and watch the sunset every evening. The Iglesia de Nuestra Senora des Remedios was built by the Spanish atop Quetzalcoatl's Pyramid: a temple atop a temple.

I thought of it before I read your entire contest post and wondered people would consider it in bounds. To me, there's no question that it should be. Then I read your post. :)

^It's really no crazier than any other religion out there.

Thought I'd share -- here's a photo of one of those sunsets that I took from wall of the church in my entry:

^^ That's beautiful.

Great entries, everyone. It's too bad the Church of Spock was taken over by fundies. :rommie:

^Isn't it though? Those were good times! One night I got really drunk in Puebla City, the city nearest to where the Iglesia de Nuestra Senora des Remedios is located, and had to grab a cab back to my lodgings at about 2 am. This was near the beginning of my stay in Mexico and my Spanish was (and still is) very limited. I knew the hostel was near a church, and managed to get across to the cabby that I wanted to go to the hotel by the iglesia. What I didn't know is that the area surrounding Puebla city is famous for having something like 150 cathedrals. We'd drive to a cathedral and the cabby would point out into the darkness and ask, "Iglesia?" and I'd say, "No, iglesia diferente." And he'd drive to another and ask, "Iglesia?"

Finally, I borrowed his receipts book and drew a picture of the church I was looking for -- fortunately, I can draw very well!

We've got a pretty good turnout here. I'll probably put up the Voting Thread sometime tomorrow, depending on how the Easter Bunny Hunt-- er, I mean Easter Egg Hunt :alienblush: --goes, so you've still got time to get in your entry.
