ENTER! Misc. Avatar Contest: Pareidolia!

Thank you, everyone, for voting for my heartfelt Pluto avatar in our prior contest. And my sincere apologies to Leonard Nimoy. :alienblush:

To carry on the theme of that winning entry, our new contest will be "Things That Used To Be Planets." No, I'm kidding. Our new contest will be "Pareidolia," which is a kind of pattern recognition where people see things that aren't really there because the random lines, colors, and shadows evoke something familiar. It's not the same as a hallucination, so you don't have to discontinue your meds to play.

The big heart smiley on Pluto is an example of Pareidolia:

Other examples of Pareidolia in the universe are the famous Face on Mars (there's an elephant there, too) and the Horsehead Nebula. Examples on Earth include the Old Man in the Mountain in the White Mountains of New Hampshire (now deceased) and the Virgin Mary in a grilled cheese sandwich down in Texas (now consumed). My own entry is another familiar geographic (or areographic) formation on Mars, the Big Smiley Face:

So go to it, contestants. Typical Misc Avatar Contest rules apply. And no Waldo!

I hope you like my theme! But if you don't, well....

Great theme! I think it's going to take awhile for some to find something, but I'm all in. And hey, looks like you're the first to run the contest with the new forum :)

Does this one work for you? It's the lady on the moon based on a sketch by Gallileo. I had played around with it in Photoshop to bring out the woman a bit more.

A dumb question, perhaps, but... based on the entries so far, I assume we're sticking with the vBulletin 150 x 150 for the contests, rather than the XenForo 96 x 96?

(Not a complaint, mind you... I prefer the larger size. Just wanted to check, and there were no sizing rules mentioned in the OP.)

Hmm. Does the new board have a multiquote function?

Wow, that didn't even occur to me. Thank you. :)

You bet. That's a good one.

That's a good question. I didn't even know about the size change, but as far as I'm concerned we should stick with the 150x150. That's small enough as it is.

There he is! :bolian:

I hope I'm doing this right and it posts...while I have no idea what you said, can't wait to see the entries...:D

Sounds good to me! :techman:

(I was originally going to enter the Voyager smiley, before I clued in that this was Misc and therefore no media... :alienblush:)
