ENTER! Misc. Av.Contest: Gunslinger legends

Howdy!

This time, let's see your favorite wild west legend. It must be real, non-fictional persons related with the myth of the wild west. Art or actual photos are fine, but no actors playing the person in question (so no Kevin Costner as Wyatt Earp or something like that).

Since entries take their time these days, I'm not setting a time limit just now. Let's see how they are coming.

I'll make the start with James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok:

Wyatt Berry Stapp Earp. Born in my home state of Illinois.

Finally got it how I want it.

Ar-Pharazon would you hold against me if I suggested to remove the white framing around the photo?

I just think it would make a better avatar -but that's just mho...

I didn't have any framing at first, not intentionally, I was having issues with the transparency in PS.

I have a black framing around the oval shape. How does it look now?

Thing is, it looks better in PS, then when I try to save as .gif, it makes the border look sharper than it did before the save.

Very irritating.

It's the same in the GIMP.

It's about how browsers perceive the transparency -afaik.

Just take a look at my current (UTOPIA) avatar¹

¹ - Which happens to be my entry in another contest on this board at this time.

^I think it's part of the GIF-format - or transparency - rather than the apps you do it in -if you find a way to merge transparent'ish colours with whatever background-colour you post an image on -please let me know! ... I'll become a billionaire and you'll get all the credit ;)

Hmm, gunslingers. Way outside my area of expertise, but I'll see what I can come up with.

One of the greatest leaders of the American West, Chief Sitting Bull of the Hunkpapa Sioux:

'Gunslingers' weren't the only legendary 'bandits' in the west... I'm contemplating the mechanical kind. :)

Ah. I see where you're coming from.

Well, okay, since there also was a Lucky Luke comic adventure on that topic. But on one condition (as to make it fairer to the others, as well as maybe more challenging to you):

I'll allow it, if it's art, or if it's a photographic image from the 19th century.

Looking for just that (vintage photos of those machines) I happened upon something else, something with someone posing a real bandit -WITH a gun- from 1903 though -but a real person :) -I think I'll be going with that instead.

Strange, isn't it: how googeling for images always brings up stuff you hadn't thought about in the first place.

[And: :rommie: that Lucky Luke album was the first thing that jumped to my mind on this theme :rommie: ]
