Enter Misc. Av Contest: Children's Books

Greylock Crescent

Adventurer
Admiral
This contest is about children's books and the incredible artwork that brings them to life, from the cover to the pages in between.

Aside from the standard avatar rules, there are two others:

1. For the purposes of this contest, I'm cutting off the age range at books written for teens/young adults. So, Hunger Games, Mortal Instruments, Twilight (teehee), Divergent, etc. are not eligible. Harry Potter is. If there are any questions, I'll make the determination.

2. Please, no TV or Media based on the books. Only original artwork designed for the books (cover, page illustrations, etc.) is eligible.

If you're looking for inspiration, here's a handy list. It might also be helpful to identify the title (and illustrator, if you know him or her). I'll put the poll up by the end of the work week (most likely Thursday night).

Good luck!

I still love the charming simplicity of Ernest Shepard's original illustrations for A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh.

(And Disney committed blasphemy by giving the animated Pooh characters American accents.)

Ah, good topic. I know exactly what I'm going to do. And I'll bet nobody else has ever heard of it. :rommie:

This is not the cover of The Mousehole Cat, but my favourite painting in it--The Great Storm Cat. Nicola Bayley's illustrations are marvellous. I have no idea if this pic is too big, so here goes:

Avatars must be 150 x 150 pixels max, just like the avatars for the BBS. That's 231 x 235. Use photobucket to resize it.

Thank you. :) I didn't know the actual pixel size it had to be, and have edited my original entry accordingly. I learned something new today!

Alfred Hitchcock and The Three Investigators #14: The Mystery of the Coughing Dragon, by Nick West, cover & interior art by Harry Kane

The Chronicles of Narnia by CS Lewis. This was the book series that really sparked my imagination and made me into an avid reader as a child.

Didn't quite make it last night, but here we go: An obscure children's classic that I read (probably a dozen times) in 5th Grade.

The Wonderful Flight To The Mushroom Planet.

Has anybody else ever even heard of it? :rommie:

oooh, awesome topic!
Yours made me grin, Auntie. I didn't know that book and the big bad evil troll Daystrom himself read it to me in a book store in Los Angeles, much to the enjoyment of all children present in said shop :D An unforgettable experience (Day is a great reader!)
Btw, a few days ago I noticed we have a newbie calling himself Sam-I-am :) Must be Dr-Seuss-season :D
