i think you can watch it for free at the Internet Archive. or at least you could a few years ago.

See "Plan 9" with friends. It's a lot more fun that way. I first saw it at 2am on a local TV channel with two buddies who had seen it so many times, they were quoting memorably bad dialogue to each other during the used-car commercials. They had me laughing so hard. It was great.
