ENT crew relationship....

Joel_Kirk

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
Was there supposed to be a friendship between these two characters in the beginning?

The two trade quips before Trip goes off to the alien vessel in 'Unexpected'...

My earlier thought on this show, reading the boards, and from the few episodes I've seen, was that certain characters were given more screentime than others (or ignored)....but it seems like everyone is given the spotlight.

I guess it changes later on in the show in regards to which characters are focused on.

Malcolm and Trip seem to have their own banter....(and Malcom seems to have an affinity for weaponry).

As I'm going from episode to episode, the crew isn't that bad, and even Archer acted pretty good in 'Unexpected' and 'Terra Nova'...(He did act questionable in previous episodes; I do understand some questionable things crop up later on in the series).

Even though the stories could be a bit stronger, and 'quality controlled' I'm not disappointed with the way the crew has been handled....so far...

I'm about to watch 'The Andorian Incident'...

Malcolm and Trip are ENT's version of Julian and Miles. I've seen "Shuttlepod One" like a hundred times already, and just can't get enough of it. :D

Keep in mind that ENT did the characters differently from any of the other Trek series. They actually grow and change over the course of the show.

It was largely supposed to be about how Archer grows from an overly-optimistic, inexperienced, vaguely racist hotshot test pilot given a command he was totally unprepared for (with disaster after disaster resulting), to becoming the first iconic Starfleet captain that every other one since emulated. You can see it happening over the course of the show. The other story is T'Pol becoming more human, going from an isolationist vaguely racist Vulcan to basically Spock. You can see that happen too.

Trip and Reed grate on each other, but they become friends over the course of the show too. The writers even throw a bone to Hoshi and Travis now and then, who otherwise just have bit supporting roles.

The characters grow and change. In the pilot and first seasons, they're far from who they're supposed to be, and we're supposed to watch them as they grow into the first Starfleet crew.

Archer and Trip entered the beginning of the show as friends. Archer "recruited" Trip to take the Engineering position. I don't know whether Archer and Hoshi were friends, but he recruited her as well.

And how they changed -- agreed! By the end, I thought the most interesting friendships were between Archer and T'Pol, T'Pol and Phlox and Trip and Malcolm.

I like your idea about Archer....;)

I know I've mentioned it before in other threads, but I would love to see how TrekLit expands all the characters, and give us an idea of how the mission affected them...and eventually how they change as technology/Starfleet/Federation evolves...
