Ensign Ro

I wasn't disputing that. I was merely pointing out that the importance of using a Bajoran character was very much something Piller and Taylor probably would have felt important to do vs. the later writers who were clearly not as interested in utilizing.

I hear it was also a problem with the availability of the actress.

I wasn't discussing Ro or Michelle Forbes just now.

In the case of Ro, yes. It's well known I think that while the producers wanted her for DS9 as the first officer, Michelle Forbes did not want to be tied down to a weekly series. I was discussing why or why not the producers of Voyager ultimately never really ran with having a regular or recurring Bajoran character on the series.

Could it be that they simply didn't find the actor/actress who could fill that role?

That's certainly a possibility. I never stated anything definitively; I was hypothesizing, which I also believe I was pretty clear about.

Because while Kira worked out for the best, it would have been pretty noticeable to have the second replacement for Ro also be a former Bajoran resistance fighter/Bajoran maquis who is anti-authority.
One possibility they could have done was to include a male Bajoran instead.
But maybe after they felt that they Bajoarns had enough focus on DS9 and wanted chose not to have a Bajoran main character in order to distance themselves from their sister show. Of course including a Half-Klingon (who didn't look very Klingon by the way) was not really much better.

Seska was 99% of the way there... until the reveal. ;)

They could always have gotten around Forbes unwillingness to sign up to a series by keeping Ro, but recasting her. Introduce the 'new' Ro in Pre-emptive Strike, and then carry her over to the new show.

Sure it would've felt like a cheat, but if they'd really felt that invested in getting the character over to VOYAGER then it would've been an option.

My assumption is they decided they could explore different things with Be'Lanna. And, let's be honest, with Major Kira porting over patches of Ro's backstory anyway, it would've been conspicuous to have Ro around. So maybe it all turned out for the best.

I definitely think DS9 should've done something with Ro, though. (Maybe alongside bringing back Tom Riker, now wouldn't that have been fascinating... :D)

Lol as a sort of interstellar Bonnie and Clyde, eh? Tom Riker flying their escape pod at the end while Ro flips off Kira

On a different note, since Tuvok (for whatever reason) didn't end up being "everybody's kindly grandfather menthor" as described in the series bible, anyway. I see nothing wrong with them simply switching Tuvok's and Ro's/B'elanna's species. By that point there had neither been a female Vulcan nor Bajoran male main character. So Voyager would have had a Vulcan lady (who had infiltrated the Maquis) as Chief Engineer and a male Bajoran Maquis as Secuirty Chief. Instead of Chekotay, Bajoran!Tuvok would have had a fling with Seska, possibly with them even being a couple before the Cardassian reveal. However the question is if Vulcan!B'elanna would still have hooked up with Tom (wouldn't that have pretty much been the T'pol/Trip romance?)

For me Kira > Ro also, and, i have to say, i like B'elanna. Would not trade her for Ro. Those ridges on her face ware nice. She looks beautiful with those.

By the way, best Trek actor would have o be René Auberjenois. C'mon! He could explain his state of mind just with the eyes! Even with a damn mask on his entire face, he was, very emotional.

Same goes for Garak, becausa Garak is Garak and Garak rocks.

What's funny is that René Auberjenois is not at all like Odo, and I don't mean in the shape-shifting department.

He's very extrovert and doesn't hesitate to show his emotions.
