The transporter effect is ok.....not the best we've seen by any means, but ok. Besides, you have to have a lot of flashy effects these days to keep movie goer's minds from wandering.

Every transporter effect we ever saw since 1966 has been a "flashy effect". This one is just a different style of flashy.

That's like suggesting the Rebels equipped the Stormtroopers (because only rebels get red lasers.)

Lasers? Neither had lasers.

I'm not a Star Wars-phile, so is the correct term "blaster"?

That reminds me of a sci-fi Tv show or movie my wife and I saw a several years ago. There was an piece of dialogue where a character was explaining the operation of his "laser-style" gun, and he said (in all seriousness) "...it has three power settings: 'Stun', 'Kill', and 'Blast'..."

It's like a Nigel Tufnel version of a phaser. We still get a kick out of that to this day and often repeat that line, but I can't remember what it was from. Does anyone know what TV show/film that is from?
