Endwar demo is out

I tried this on the beta and it was just terrible, the system could not get to grips with my Scottish accent, even my most posh one, and the controls were just abysmal.......i hope they have vaslty improved it since the beta......I will give it a go again.

I remain completely skeptical as to how successful the voice commands might be - I *hate* RTS games on consoles as I find a mouse/keyboard is the FAR better control mechanism for an RTS (hence my hesitation over Halo Wars) - but I'm not sure that voice controls are the right solution for a console RTS.

Having said that, I haven't yet played the demo and I'm definitely going to download it in the next few days to check it out - I hope I'm pleasantly surprised!

But is it true that all you really do in the game is yell "Unit X attack hostile Z" etc.? sounds a little ... shallow.

You also tell them to secure buildings, take cover, retreat etc etc. This is a RTS on a console so I`m not expecting Civilization, but the graphics are nice, the controls are easy and the game is fun. I think everybody will enjoy the demo.

That sucks.

I noticed that your voice does NOT need to be in the "optimal" zone when calibrating. Mine almost never got there saying the different test phrases without yelling and the actual game still played fine. Is the demo not recognizing your voice at all due to your accent, or are the audio levels just coming in really low?

I had read on a blog that a player got the system calibrated to recognize his voice, and it also worked when his friend with a French accent tried it without re-calibrating.

Might just be because it was beta and the software hadn't been worked out perfectly yet to different accents.

It was ok, nothing more :shifty: Am buying it for my friend for X mas so if I ever need to play it will borrow his copy :p

I found the voice worked for me... but it was just faster to use the controller.

As for the game itself, well... the demo was alright anyway. It feels a lot like World in Conflict, actually.
