Endgame: Why did Janeway not want to discuss 7 of 9?

Admiral Alan

Cadet
Newbie
I haven't watched the series in a very long time but decided to watch Endgame on Netflix. I was wondering, why did Janeway not want to discuss 7 of 9 with the class she was lecturing? I don't remember anything really bad happening between them that would have been held on to for 10 years.

In that timeline Seven of Nine had died.

I thought it was odd. I mean three years from our Janeway's time was the death. i hardly see the relationship strong enough to warrant such grief strictness. but grief is unpredictable I guess.

Factually it was a Mother/daughter relationship.

There was no justification for this fact, but the writers thunk it true, so there.

Seven's PreVoyager personality is backed up inside the Collective, and if Seven on Voyager had any foresight, she would have backed herself up constantly, like the Doctor Backs himself up.

Either she could have lived on as a Hologram, or her personality could be downloaded into any Drone, even a drone made from Clonemeat by Starfleet that had never been a person.

The only reason that Anika stayed dead is because that's how Janeway liked it.

Admiral Janeway wasn't married, had no kids.... nothing.

And that's why she was so distraught about Seven.

You have no idea how many dogs she had!

1. The crazy old dog lady valued this mission so much the she left her dogs behind in a collapsing/broke down 25th century to be unmade as their reality blinked out.

2a. Janeway had Seven dogs in transporter suspension.

2b. Janway's seven suspended dogs died when her shuttle blew up.

2c. Janeway's seven suspended dogs were the first thing she got off that shuttle, way before she pointed out the boxes full of batmobile armour.

Maybe she felt responsible for the way she died.

She died on an away mission. I doubt Janeway would blame herself any more than she did when other people died on away missions (boo Carey).

Endgame said:
ADMIRAL: Three years from now. She'll be injured on an away mission. She'll make it back to Voyager, and die in the arms of her husband.

What kind of injury results in death (that nano-bots cant fix?).

Once again it depends on the circumstances plus the fact that she had spent so much time and energy on helping Seven. It would be like losing her foster daughter which is a bit more of an emotional connection than the one she had with someone like Carey. I know you (I think it's you) don't care for the beta canon but Kirstin Byers account of what happened would be something hard for Janeway to simply 'get over'.

As far as her injuries....Hmmm....too many spoilers for the book The Eternal Tide. Apologies once again for those who don't follow the beta canon.

I see the books in much the same way I see fan fiction.

But I'd still be interested in hearing it.

Seven died. It still hurt. She didn't feel like talking about something so personal in front of a large room of cadets. You can hardly blame her.

I can't help it, but when you have the words Clonemeat and Starfleet cheek by jowl as you do here, I just start visualizing a can of tuna. Now whether it's solid albacore or just chunk light, I'm not sure if I can say. Perhaps you should be the arbiter of that, Guy. But please keep in mind, It's Seven we're talking about here!!!!!:)

Not having read the book, I can only speculate, but if she were drawn and quartered, I would think that would be a tough row to hoe. If it were possible for her to be reconstructed from that, I'm really not sure if I would want to be around to watch the process. Yep, I'm going need to think on that.
