[It looks like cash-strapped EMI is still trying to strike a distribution deal with Sony Music, after both Sony and Universal Music Group (UMG) walked away from licensing talks with EMI last week. The new deal being discussed would give Sony Music distribution rights to EMI's back catalog in North and South America, according to the U.K.'s Guardian newspaper. Talks between Sony's finance director, Kevin Kelleher, and EMI's executive chairman, Charles Allen, could begin in May if advisers working for the two firms can stitch together an outline agreement over the next few weeks.
