EMERGENCY MANUAL MONITOR ROOM TOS

Koloth TOS

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
In TOS there is always the same control desk in the EMM, except in the episode "The Immunity Syndrome".

Is there any good reason for that special set decoration in The Imunity Syndrome? The control desk featuring in this episode seems to have been reused from the Auxiliary control room. It seems even a bit too big for the small EMM room.

I don't think this is a continuity error. Machinery gets moved sometimes.

As I see it, in the period before "The Immunity Syndrome," Scotty was getting ready to install an upgrade on the warp field inducer. He swapped in the bigger console, on which he could work the upgrade and monitor his usual stuff at the same time.

When the project was completed, he put the EMM's standard console back in and returned the luxurious one to the guys in Auxiliary Control, who'd been making do with portable workstations.

It was probably a matter of stagehand Bob setting up the scene for filming, instead of stagehand Joe. We're still paying the price for his carelessness, decades later.

@Koloth TOS , those images appear to be hotlinked from Trekcore. My understanding is they’re one of the very few sites that allows our members to hotlink images here, but they must be credited.

Otherwise, images need to be hosted on your own site, or one designed for free hotlinking, like Imgur.

Sorry for being so technologically inept, but what is hotlinking?

It’s when a picture is hosted on a different website, and instead of providing a link, a person actually uses the photo. Some places are meant for that, like Photobucket and Imgur.

When you post a picture hosted by someone else’s website without their permission, you’re actually stealing bandwidth from them. An internet no-no.

Most of the time it’s innocent, and we just change the pictures to links. In this case, Trekcore wants credit for its hosting of these images.

You can read the exact rule in the pinned thread at the top of the forum, if you’re interested.

Ok, I‘ll be adding the source in the future.

Anyone got a view of the front of the console? When shown in the Emergency Manual Control room we never see but the backside, except in The Tholian Web, just a small part, though.
Donny Versiga shows a view but I do not know his source.

Was it ever used in other scenes?

The Tholian Web is the only episode that you see the actual console front. There was never any detail on it because it was never seen except from the backside.

I couldn't find any AC scenes in that episode, but The Way To Eden has a pretty good view:

I'm assuming @Koloth TOS is not asking about the non-Aux Control desk but the usual EMM desk that we see the back of in most episodes with the exception of The Tholian Web as pointed out by feek61 and that was for the Defiant. It does seem that in a later episode the console has some different controls as Scotty is fiddling with some controls on the hidden side of the panel that looked barren in "The Tholian Web".

The EMM console in Lights of Zetar looks an awful lot like the the free-standing console (in front of the main engineering grill ) we see first in Tomorrow is Yesterday ('and they're buckling') and later on the Constellation as she gets underway on impulse.
Both seem to have the same zig-zag end.

They are very similar. The extra red lip at the front of the panel seen in The Tholian Web looks like it is also present in The Lights of Zetar panel. Is this present on other free-standing consoles?
