Has anyone worked out if this means Who will finish before the World Cup starts?

Does it really matter? Wasn't there a bit of overlap between Who and that football event a few years ago?

Basically because there has been some confusion over what the first Smith series is called (season a, season 11.1, season 5, season 31) some people have taken to calling it other things. Fred is another popular one.

My understanding is that its officially season 5, it's just called 11.1 for production purposes.

That's one of the lamest things I've ever heard.

And why 11.1? I can see why S1, S5, or S31 would make sense, but not 11.1.

I confess, I haven't read through all of the pages of this thread, but how on Earth is "Series Fred" one of the potential names? I just can't make a connection with the producer or actor.

I'm almost hoping it isn't true. While it's great in theory a lot of the hour long episodes don't seem to have added that much to what could have been a 45 minute story (specifically PotD and WoM)

Yes, but this is different, isn't it? If Eleventh Hour is 60 minutes long, we can have an "origin story" as well as a decent story without having to sacrifice one for the other.

Good point, I hope that's the case rather than it being a 45 minute story stretched out to make it seem more epic for Easter.

It's a reference to The Fourth Doctor giving Romanadvoratrelundar an ultimatum: "Romana" or "Fred." Because of the confusion of what to call Season 31, fans have thrown in "Fred" into the mix.

Yeah, but those weren't worth the hour because there wasn't enough real story to them. Whereas the first episode of Series 5 has the job of introducing a new Doctor and providing the first adventure in some time. And The Christmas Invasion was, of course, an hour.

Also The Eleventh Hour being an hour also sounds right. Eleventh Doctor, hour long...it's all in there.
