Eleventh Doctor rules

I was crushed when Dr. #9 died. It took a while, but I eventually enjoyed #10. When #11 started, I had almost decided I'd hate him because I liked #10 so much.

Only two episodes later, #11 might be my favorite of all time. He's quirky, nice, scholarly, a little awkward and fun.

Nice work, Matt Smith!!!

Anyone else so against changes in doctors and then adore them?

I didn't really get into Doctor Who until Tennant's second season, and as much as I enjoyed him as the Doctor, I was definitely ready for a change by the end of The End of Time. To be honest I was a little skeptical of Smith (though I'd call it cautious optimism), but he won me over pretty much right away. His first meeting with little Amelia Pond was pure gold.

So much different from all the "I miss Eccelston!" posts we had to listen to after David took the part.

Well it took a year for Tennant to convince me (although oddly he was quite good--when awake--in the Christmas invasion)

Time has finally started to soften my feelings towards the Sixth Doctor (or the man who killed my Doctor as I used to like to think of him )

It took me 1.5 years to accept Tennant, I loved Eccelston so much. Smith I had some real concerns about until I saw his first full episode and I instantly liked him.

I can honestly say that I've never had any reservations about any new Doctor. It's more of a case of waiting to see what a new incarnation is going to be like, but I've never met a Doctor I haven't liked, fortunately...

DT and Smith got me from the start and the same for Chris but then I had only McGann as my previous Doctor whom I liked too. However unlike McGann, I actually think The 9th Doctor is weaker after watching Tennant and now Smith...somethings is just off but I put it down to 1st season syndrome where most shows spend a lot of time just finding there feet.

To be honest I'm still kind of amazed fans have taken to Smith as well as they have. Even people who don't care for the series itself still seem to love Smith.

With all his oddball quirks and mannerisms, I figured fans would have been a LOT more divided on him than this, thinking that he was "just too weird" or "trying too hard" or something.

i don't remember much of Five or Six, but i've never had a problem with any Doctor from Seven on.

Ecclescakes won me over with 'hello Rose, now run for your life!'.

Tennant won me over with the 'hopping for your life' bit in the CiN special.

Smith won me over with 'legs! i've still got legs!'

I never disliked Tennant, but he never actually won me over in any serious way. For me, he's like Pertwee: he's The Doctor, and I love to see him. But, he's not a Doctor I'm going to re-watch a lot, either.

Eccleston and Smith have The Doctor nailed down to perfection, in my view. Can't get enough of either... :techman:

Yep, ditto. A thousand times this. They did a brilliant casting job when they picked him. :techman:

I knew that I would instantly like Matt as soon as the BBC posted that promo pic of him two years ago (gosh has it really been that long now or does it just seem like it and did I just type gosh?). Watching his performance over the past ten episodes though has been really great. I've enjoyed his off beat yet subdued Doctor. He has shown he can portray the wide range of emotions the Doctor expresses extremely well. I will miss David and Chris but Matt's the man right now.

Back at the end of Davison's run. I had been skeptical of Davison at first (understandably - who in their right mind could hope to succeed Tom Baker?) but I warmed to him over time. Some of the stories though were becoming ropier and ropier and I did not like the new American companion, Peri, very much (though she was nice to look at). So when they announced Colin Baker was the new Doctor I tried to be open minded and checked out his first story, The Twin Dilemma.

As soon as the first episode had ended I had decided I did not like this new doctor and the time had come for me and Doctor Who to part ways.

Took me 20 something years to come back to it...

As for Matt Smith - he is a natural and you can see it. His doctor is so much more rounded, so much more complex & interesting than his immediate predecessors.

Agreed. Yes, so far, Eccleston (9) and Smith (11) so far are my favs in that order (with Smith quickly catching up). Tennant (10) and Baker (4) are next in that order.

Not to make this a ranking thread but my favorite doctors would be (the ones I've watched and liked so far) 1)David Tennant 2)Christopher Eccelston 3)Matt Smith 4)Peter Davidson 5)William Hartnell.

Ranking again? Hmmm...it changes so often for me.

  1. Nine and Eleven are dead-even for me, but for completely different reasons.
  2. Number Four
  3. Number One
  4. Number Six
  5. Number Five
  6. Number Seven
  7. Number Eight
  8. Number Two
  9. Number Ten
  10. Number Three
