Elephants and Flowers

Because the star trek future is populated ONLY by those who serve Greenpeace, there probably are no sea worlds or zoos in that future; But could you imagine if common sense did prevail? And you could actually go to a zoo and see all kinds of exotic animals? Perhaps there is real 'sea world' where tourists (yeah, TOURISTS) can go to watch these animals and take pictures while walking around eating hot-dogs.

But...it would probably all be holographic. Just gigantic holo-decks with 'fake' animals, so as not to exploit the real ones....

One can only wonder if Elephants can step on flowers in the future..

Wow, yes it is Mr. Exodus. Its one of his more obscure songs, but I was writing about zoos and thought, hey, time to throw down a prince title!!!...Good job mr.'dus!!!

You're the first one to notice my GH connection. I loved that show when they were saving the world from being frozen, or trying to find Aztec Treasures. Now its just Sopranos lite and I stopped watching because of it!!

How about on Earth in Trek's future, instead of Zoos they have large acres of Wildlife preserves, probably like some the ones they have today, that aren't entirley caged off and for tourists they possibly have some sort of duck blind route for them to walk around in and view the animals, could even give some tourists those holographic body suits so that they up close to some of the animals.

As regards zoos, TAS "Eye of the Beholder" had one, and our heroes, McCoy and Spock alike, seem completely familiar with the concept of caging animals for display. And they don't exactly oppose the concept, just the execution, with them as specimen.

Of course, the Foster novelization expands that episode with an absurd coda where our heroes immediately after their release help the slugs imprison another lifeform for their zoo. OTOH, Foster in his other TAS novelizations also speaks of wildlife refuges in Africa.

But general Trek sensibilities seem to run against imprisoning of animals. Torturing and killing is perfectly okay, at least when it comes to fishing. But imprisoning or enslaving is wrong, especially for the purposes of eating. And we've never seen a Federation zoo - the only "imprisoned" animals we've witnessed have been a flock of puppies, a pet cat or three, and a couple of rare animals being transported aboard the E-D and put to display for the duration of the transport in "New Ground".

Like the former "Jungle Habitat".

It was a place like that in New York State years ago, where you could drive you car thru an open Wildlife preserve. It was like an Africa Safari but from the comfort of your own car.

Only bad part was the Monkey's were famous for breaking the cars antenna as they jumped all over it.

Does the dolphin deck on the D count? Technically, I think the design specs had them as something to do with navigation, but Geordi recommends gawking at them as fun for visitors
