While this may be the wrong forum, Sherlock Holmes was DEFINITELY a product of fantasy.

Sherlock Holmes is so well known that some think he was a real person!

Any Sherlockians about? And what is your fav story, novels notwithstanding.

"The Adventure of the Blue Carbuncle," Though "The Red Headed League " is a masterpeice of misdirection!

Indeed. Holmes was no more fantasy than Philip Marlowe or Spenser. I don't recall him fighting dragons or elves, or having supernatural powers. the stories were of the Detective/Mystery genre.

Of the short stories, I liked Speckled Band and The Musgrave Ritual the best. My favorite of the books is Hound of the Baskervilles.

I love Rathbone's version of Hound, but Jeremy Brett is the best screen Holmes.

The Nicholas Meyer books are also quite good.

Favorite short stories: "Charles Augustus Milverton", "The Dying Detective".

Favorite novel: Nicholas Meyer's "The Canary Trainer", with his two others close behind.

Haven't seen any screen Holmes yet, so I don't have a favorite there... and yes, I do think this thread fits better in TV and Media. :)

Even though Rachel McAdams was rather fantastic looking in the recent film version of the redoubtable Mr. Holmes (Sherlock, not John) ... this really is more of a topic for the Miscellaneous forum.

It can go either way, as we've had a recent Thread related to Sherlock; if UncleRogi would like it moved to get more action, I (or any Mod) would be happy to do so.

Incidentally, as I said in the other Thread, new Sherlock Holmes stories can be found in every issue of Strand and they're usually quite good.

And, yeah, a lot of people do think that Holmes was real (and he was based on a real person). 221B Baker Street gets a lot of mail addressed to Holmes, although most of those people are just playing the game.

You are reading my mind. These are my exact same thoughts.
