My simple solution to that is to have everything on surge protectors. Then, I can just switch that off or unplug it. Good to go!

I may have to do this, at least until I start making some some measurable form of money again.
I read an article yesterday that stated the cable box is the thirstiest vampire of all electrical appliances in a household.
That's what we do. Everything goes totally off. DVD, VCR, off. I keep my coffee maker and microwave unplugged. The computer is on one too, it goes off at night.
Even in the summer, with a two bedroom in New York city, our bill never exceeded 80 bucks.
I think the only things that stay on all the time is the alarm clock, the phone/answering machine and the DVR.

A dyer, for example, can be several times higher for use than going to a laundry mat and simply using a 0.75 one. $125 is a lot for a single person in an apartment. Are you eating the electricity?
This is a little bit of a problem. For my TV and stuff it doesn't really work. First of all, the cable box starts screaming OCAP followed by a ridiculously long countdown anytime it loses power. Because someone thought slow hardware + slow java code = good idea it takes upwards of 10 minutes to boot (which assumes it doesn't crash during the boot process, which it loves to do). My router and cable modem are also on that surge protector so I can't really kill those. Then there's my television... it's a 3LCD Sony projector (kind of their defunct version of DLP), and after you power it down it continues runnings its internal fan for about another 2 minutes, presumably for a good reason.
Out of curiousity do you have an average kWh number? I get the feeling that while our usage is a little high, it's the Cali electrical rates that are really getting us.

I somehow manage to get by using around 300/kWh most months should I not have to run the A/C or the furnace (which is forced air gas). I even use power tools often. What the heck are you people running?
Yeah, obviously it doesn't work for everything. Some things take a while to boot up, and some things require their cool-down cycle.
However, I don't have cable or a projection TV, so I'm in the clear there.

We have a 1,600 SF, 3 bed, 2 bath house. It's usually $125-130 a month. It had been more expensive, we we signed up for a 10% discount deal by agreeing to buy energy from one of the power company's preferred generators.
It jumps up to $160-170 in the summer with the AC. But it's worth it to me to be comfortable.

Same here, for now. My house is so drafty that I set the thermostat low in the winter and literally wander around the house in sweats and huddle under a sleeping bag, while watching TV. I tell people I live like a pensioned old widow.

My largest charge for an electric bill was $2.37 when the apartment above mine flooded into mine, and the complex had to run dehumidifiers and fans to fix up the place.
I get $35.00 electricty included as part of my rent. The above was the only time I didn't stay under $35.00. From what I understand, my typical bill would be about $18.00 a month during any month.

I've failed to mentioned that I've choosed two-bedroom in woodlands apartment that allows me to bring three cats in my new home and before I do that, I'd have to pay 900 dollars of pet fee. I tried to convinced them to let me pay rent for pet fee for several months, but the landlord said no, she demand that I get to paid full! 
So, yeah, there you have it ladies and gentlemen. Nothing's shit going on now. I'm trying to balance my budget whenever will I going to pay that outrageous pet fee for that. I love two another new cats, they're reminded me of other cats.
Sooner or later, all hell will broke loose!

I've never heard of a $900 pet fee. The most I've ever seen is something like an extra $150-200 or so.
