Funny you should put it that way. Whoopi Goldberg was insistent that Guinan's background never be fully explained in episodes. She maintains she has worked out all about Guinan's past, as preparation for her role, but she keeps it close to her chest.

Seconded. However, I can't help but feel that posting about it in these forums makes it less likely to happen because if they announce anything from here on out everyone would try to claim they got the idea from here.

If Whoopi Goldberg ever decided to write a Guinan novel, the fact that we discussed the possibility of her writing a Guinan novel wouldn't be a factor in it not being able to happen.

The point is: Whoopi already knows about Guinan's background - and she enjoys not sharing it!

Just saying "I'd like to see a book about such-and-such a topic" isn't the kind of story idea that would force the scuttling of a project. It's only a story idea if you propose what specific events would happen in the story.

Unlikely. Now, buying a large number of books that are similar in subject matter, or at least similar enough that an editor could convince the sales department that there's a market for such a book, could increase its chances. So if, say, a lot of people bought copies of Guinan-centric books like Vendetta and Stargazer: Oblivion and, oh, umm, The Buried Age and Greater Than the Sum, that might help. At least it would help me...
