I remember reading an interview with Olmos and he said that he's not a sc-fi fan and that he told the BSG producers that he would leave straight away if any weird aliens appeared!

I think he meant that he'd walk if they introduced Aliens to BSG, not that he's against alien sci-fi in its' totality. Aliens don't have much place in the kind of story nuBSG is telling so I understand the opposition.
EJO would have totally out-awesomed Avery Brooks in their scenes together. Barry Jenner was the right choice for the role.
Far be it from me to question the awesomeness of the Ed, but the Sisko is just as awesome. Starfleet was so scared of the Sisko, they pushed his new ship through in a matter of weeks.
I would agree the Ed's probably better at the craft, but Sisko was tailor-made for Brooks.
It sure took them long enough to find an admiral the audience could actually like and respect.

Yeah, but this would have been after the three of them single-handedly defeated the Dominion, the Romulans, the Borg, the Cylons, and Chuck Norris all within about half an hour.
