Edward James Olmos as Admiral Ross?

Aquehonga

Fleet Captain
I've seen a few episodes of BSG's tng this week. The first ones I've ever seen of BSG's 2nd series.

While watching E.J. Olmos's Commander Adama, he kept reminding me of someone, & it was Admiral Ross from DS9.

E.J. Olmos & the actor who played Ross look very much alike. Plus their characters are similar. Both commanders of starfleets fighting sneaky enemies who are masters of disguise.

Do YOU think Edward James Olmos should've played Admiral Ross?

Of course that would've been a bumber & sucked burps'n'farts bigtime for the actor who did play Ross.

BSG tng's Adama/EJ Olmos remind me alot of DS9's Ross/his_portrayer.

Your thoughts>

I think that Olmos would've done a good job, but I liked Barry Jenner.

I've just started watching BSG, too (I got the 1st season January 21st and now have only Kobol's Last Gleaming Parts I and II to get through; I've also just ordered S2-4 + Razor, because I'm utterly hooked.)

I'm quite happy with the Ross we got. Very good performance on DS9, although he isn't discussed much on this board. I remember once on this board someone pointed out how when a poster posted a pic of a card with signatures of many DS9 cast members on it, the Ross actor is the only one who wrote his character name along with his signature. Just goes to show that sometimes good actors don't get the recognition they should.

I think Olmos is perfect for the nuBSG world.
Jenner was right for non-military Starfleet that usually organizes explorations of gaseous anomalies but occasionally, against its will, finds itself in conflict with the Borg or the Dominion.
Admiral Ross is dealt with very nicely in the books. I hope he keeps showing up.

Interesting idea, that. I'm sure Olmos would've done wonders with the role, but I wonder if they had used him, would he have started to outshine the main cast?

Barry Jenner did a pretty good job with Ross, I thought. Not too in your face, but still managed to bring a sense of authority without taking the limelight off Sisko, et al.

Adama and Ross have almost nothing in common other than a similar build and having enemies that can disguise themselves as Humans.

Adama is a hard-boiled military man and an absolute badass. Ross, by contrast, is an idealist who has at times compromised his morality for the greater good. Their personalities are completely different.

The season 4 DVD includes Razor, incase you ordered it separately!

Ordered it all on eBay from the same vendor as a package (which means I'll now have 2 copies of S1, but it was still cheaper than ordering and paying shipping on S2, S3, and S4 separately - go figure. Plus I guess that means I can re-eBay one of the copies of S1.:techman:)

If EJO was an admiral in Starfleet he would have given "the look" to The Founders and they would run right back to The Gamma Quadrant. If that didn't work he could have beat all the Jem'hadar with a flashlight until they surrendered.

But seriously I was pleased with Barry Jenner's portrayal. Its too bad we may never see him in Star Trek again.

Eh, Adama isn't THAT great an Admiral so I doubt he'd make that much a difference in the war.

EJO the actor however would have been awesome as a recurring role in DS9.

I think Olmos is a fantastic actor. But in this case, I think Jenner fits the part better. Olmos, for lack of a better expression, is a bit too 'rough' to be a Starfleet officer, I think, particularly an Admiral.

Love to see Olmos on Trek ... probably as Jellico (in that othe series)...

But Jenner nailed it on DS9.

Once Weyoun got a taste of Adama's icy-serious stare, he'd simply die from fear on the spot, where he stood.

Once the Female Shapeshifter got a glimpse of Adama's icy-serious stare, and learned his unwavering military resolve, she'd have shat her knickers with changeling poo-goo.

The Defiant would have been turned into the most awesomest weapon of pure warfare ever devised by the Federation.

Adama would have kicked arse!

Did you know that before Stewart was offered the part of Picard..... Olmos was offered the part first.

That would have been wicked... but I'm glad that Patrick got the part.

I'd KILL to see Patrick play a Colonial Admiral, though... he the only Trek actor who has the "serious" presence to make it work, on nuBSG.
