Edge of Tomorrow: fun movie but can someone please explain the ending?

Re: Edge of Tomorrow: fun movie but can someone please explain the end

Were the Exo-suits CGI or did they excually made them?

A combination of both, but mainly practical. The articles gave weights between 85 and 135 pounds.

Re: Edge of Tomorrow: fun movie but can someone please explain the end

The title "Edge pf Tomorrow" can be seen on the front, next to Emily Blunt's last name.

However, technically the title has changed.. if you look it up as a downloadable thing on iTunes or similar sites it's not under Edge of Tomorrow, It's Under Live. Die. Repeat: Edge of Tomorrow

Warner Brothers screwed up the marketing for this film in dozens of ways. All they had to do was keep the title All you Need is Kill

Yeah it's just incredible how much they fucked over that movie. First they give it the most generic title imaginable, then they advertise it like just another generic scifi action/robot/alien invasion movie, and now they confuse people again with a new, extended title.

If I were Tom Cruise, I'd be avoiding working with WB as much as possible in the future.

Even if the movie didn't perform as well as you hoped, you already spent all that money advertising it under that name... to switch the name for DVD release just throws away all that money! :wtf:

I read that article and I think it's stupid, just stick with the title. And if they really wanted to re-title it, why not just revert to the original title of the graphic novel: "All you need is Kill" ?

"All You Need is Kill" is a brilliant title. "Edge of Tomorrow" was too generic.

Re: Edge of Tomorrow: fun movie but can someone please explain the end

How is that a brilliant title? It doesn't make any sense. Sort of like that British show "Strictly Come Dancing."

Re: Edge of Tomorrow: fun movie but can someone please explain the end

I say they call it, "Planning for Yesterday."

It's catchy. It ties into the the theme of the movie. And it's a much more intriguing title than "Edge of Tomorrow," which could be about an old SF film.

Re: Edge of Tomorrow: fun movie but can someone please explain the end

No, it's really not catchy at all. In fact, it sounds like a bad James Bond film from the 80s if anything featuring one of the Bond's no one remembers.

Edge of Tomorrow is an evocative and thematically appropriate title - will Cruise teeter over into tomorrow, or tumble back into today? - but it is a bit generic, and suggests a poetry the actual movie isn't interested in.

All You Need is Kill just sounds like the garbled Japanese translation it is. It's distinctive, and therefore probably a better marketing choice, but it's not good.

Live. Die. Repeat. is succinct, unique, and aptly captures the utter disposability of the movie. It's the best of the three.

Producer Erwin Stoff on the title change (for the theatrical version):
I think the word 'kill' in a title is very tricky in today's world. I don't know that people want to be bombarded with that word. I don't know that people want to be opening the newspaper and seeing that word. We see it enough in kind of real newspaper headlines, and I don't think we need to see it when we're looking at a movie."

Uh, there's a lot of movies that have "kill" in the title. Besides, you are softening whatever edge this film might have had. I haven't seen it yet (which I regret) but I will!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edge_of_Tomorrow_(film)#cite_note-lewis-36

I can't wait to finally see the complete version of HARM BILL

And doesn't really describe the movie. All You Need Is Kill? Clearly that's not true. He didn't just need to kill. He was killing, but, he kept dying. Then kept coming back... almost like, Live, Die, Repeat.

I know it's the name of the novel, but, All You Need Is Kill? How is that any more descriptive of the movie than Edge of Tomorrow?

Both suck.

Re: Edge of Tomorrow: fun movie but can someone please explain the end

I don't think "All You Need is Kill" works for a movie title.

Or a title of anything, really. It's not really saying anything about the movie and sounds like an illogical incomplete sentence. I mean, what does that even mean?!

Not that "Edge of Tomorrow" makes any more sense, and "Live. Die. Repeat." is just as dumb but, I guess, describes the movie a bit better.

Tomorrow to Yesterday

Yesterday Always Comes

Preparing for Yesterday

Humankind's Last Chance

But, in the end, I don't think the title of the movie was the "problem" with it. Maybe it wasn't marketed enough or the right way, Cruise-Fatigue from the audiences in America, there could be plenty of other factors.

I, for one, loved the movie and put it as one of my top movies for the summer.

Re: Edge of Tomorrow: fun movie but can someone please explain the end

"All You Need Is Kill" sounds like a perverted title for a James Bond movie, Edge Of Tomorrow is an OK title. And really Emily Blunt is the only reason to watch the movie, she's awesome in it.

Re: Edge of Tomorrow: fun movie but can someone please explain the end

Okay, I watched the movie again this afternoon and I got to wondering about something:

At one point Cage begins to realize that his efforts to get him and Rita to the presumed location of the Omega will only end in her death. So on his next run-though he decides not to join-up with her and go on to destroy the Omega himself, only to discover it wasn't at the dam.

He does this because he's fallen in love with Rita and doesn't want to see her die and if she dies when they work together and he goes on to kill the Omega she's dead forever, which is why he decides to go at it alone.

Here's the problem? Doesn't Rita die on the beach unless Cage saves her? And in the times when he saved her without first introducing himself to her on the base and revealing he's gained the power to reset the day she usually doesn't take well to him saving her and usually they both end up getting killed anyway. It's also said the beach is slaughter that ends in everyone dying.

So how is Cage's plan really going to work? I understand him not wanting to take Rita on a mission where she's going to die but it seems like even if he doesn't involve her she's going to die on the beach. It makes more sense to reveal her fate earlier on instead of ambushing her with the information right when they're at their furthest point and she makes it no further.

Re: Edge of Tomorrow: fun movie but can someone please explain the end

Rita was taken aback when Cage saved her the first time but she quickly recovered and told him to look her up when he wakes up. Later on she dies when tries to take in the helicopter but he decides to leave her after she dies and he goes on the dam to face what he thought would be the Omega. The movie does get a bit confusing but after the dam they go to London instead and things I thought became clearer. Still there's nothing to explain the ending.
