Ed Norton would like his Hulk to be Avengers foil/baddie

Well, the Hulk WAS the first bad guy they ever fought so at least he's being true to the original stories.

I like the idea that they kicked around in the recent Avengers animated film, that the Hulk is unleashed to stop a greater threat and then can't be contained so the Avengers have to step in. Allows the viewer to maintain their viewpoint of Hulk as a sympathetic character instead of just some monster that runs around wrecking things from page one.

Hulk as the Avengers baddie? Sure, why not?

Better than some boring mustache twirling villain.

And, as mentioned, he was their first opponent in the comics.

it's nice to see that Norton is interested in staying involved with the Avengers movies project as it seemed he was not going to reappear as Banner.

First half, Avengers assemble to take down a rampaging Hulk. 2nd half, they unleash Hulk to take down the real threat.

Formula, sure, but it works.

i'd go more the other way around.

First part, Hulk is part of the team (or lone mission) to take something out/stop threat. Something goes wrong, and then it takes the rest of the group to bring him down/back under control.

With Banner off trying to control Hulk more, and getting a little better, makes more sense for him to be in control at first, and then something happens to make him go beserk. Team then gets him back in control by the end, and you get the "good guy trying not to hurt the good guy gone bad" angst as they fight to get him without killing Bruce...

That was the way it worked in "The Ultimates" which this movie is bound to resemble. It was excellent (although they've already stolen the bit where they shove Banner out of a helicopter to force the change).

ED NORTON: (enters apartment) Hey there, Ralphie Boy!

RALPH KRAMDEN: (grunts) Whadayou want, Norton?!!

EN: Hey, I was just thinkin' there, that if, like, they made a motion pitcher outta them there Avengers, they should put the Hulk in it, cuz, as the kids would say, that'd be 23 skiddoo! Nah-hey-hey!

RK: (swats EN) Are you nuts!?!! They ain't even been invented yet! Get Out! GE-EH-ET OUT!!!

(Shoot me if you want. The subject line was just asking for it.)

EN : Ralphie! Do Not Make Me, Ya Know, All Upset! You reallllly wouldn't like me when I'm all upset.

RK : Homina-Homina-Homina....

Zak Penn (the writer any way) said he wanted to do the Avengers movie as being The Ultimates, so i've been expecting this...

really, having Avengers 1 as 'Super Human' from The Ultimates makes sense, then do 'Homeland Security' for 2 and then 'Gods and Monsters' for 3 and wrap up with Grand Theft America in 4. just don't touch frigging Ultimates 3...

I'm just glad Norton is open to returning, after that whole credit/non-credit writer's debacle on The Incredible Hulk.

^ He seems open to returning but I got the impression that he was being diplomatic at best. I'm not sure I detected any 'I have to be in this movie, I can't wait to be in this movie' vibe from the interview. But I hope he does do it.

How would that affect his feelings towards the studio? Wouldn't he have been pissed at the WGA instead of the studio execs?

I'd like either setup. The important point for me would be that they develop some connection with Banner (hopefully, a more friendly relationship than what is depicted in The Ultimates), so it's personal to them. The government - not to mention the populace - is going to be screaming at them to kill the Hulk, you would no doubt have conflict within the group about what to do with him, drama ensues.

YEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!

(I still liked the first movie WAY more, but I just love the idea of consistency and the shared universe now that they're heading this way.)

You know, to be honest, the producers of The Avengers can use the Hulk and be entirely consistant with Norton's Incredible Hulk movie without using Norton at all. Bruce Banner didn't appear in Avengers #1 at all.
