Yeah, but there's still fun to speculate anyway.
I can understand him not knowing River Song but surely the Master is fairly well known even to non-nerds.
Earlier this month, the actor confirmed his 12-part audio series won't pay much heed to Doctor Who canon and he doesn't either.
"I just ignore it. And [the Doctor] does," he said.
"We've just recorded an episode for instance where the Brigadier is saying to him, 'You remember, you came to my retirement party and then we ended up on Gallifrey,' and he said, 'No, I don't remember.'
"An essential quality of him is he's entirely in the moment… I don't refer to any of that [canon]. My Doctor is very much in the moment."
Based on that, he's definitely a jobbing actor who needed money like he says. And that's fine, not every Doctor actor can be a fanboy nerd like Tennant and Capaldi.
But Billie Piper, Camille Coduri, John Barrowman and Bruno Langley are all doing BF already as their TV characters, so there's no reason there couldn't be stories with Nine set during season 1. Get Noel Clarke in and it would be the full set.
Its way too early to tell, though. I just hope that he'll have the benefit of storytelling generosity that the Eighth has had. We'll see.
