Early Friday Estimates - Trek #5 - $3.75 million - Passes $200 Million

Re: Early Friday Estimates - Trek #5 - $3.75 million - Passes $200 Mil

So Trek will be down to Wolverine theater counts starting next week? :(

Well Wolverine should lose more next week too. But we'll see. It might lose less than what I said earlier, which now seems too high. I would expect to drop under 3000 though.

Good to hear there might be some wiggle room depending on performance... because there's lots of life left in the rebooted girl...

Re: Early Friday Estimates - Trek #5 - $3.75 million - Passes $200 Mil

Why would the theater count go down by that much if the movie is still performing well; and why no extra IMAX venues?

contracts are already in place with these new movies.
for one thing terminator is peforming below expectations but i suspect it had a certain number of screens contracted out for two weeks.

but star trek in our largest theatre is still on three screens and two on some others.

Yeah, and considering Terminator's sizable drop this weekend, it should lose a lot of theatres next week.

I was gonna say, DmtH beat it with 1000 fewer venues!

...and people were laughing at that DmtH trailer whenever I went to see Star Trek.... in a bad way. Like they were laughing at GI Joe, but not about Transformers.

(I'll go see Transformers just because of the boy. He's cute. )

I'm having second thoughts about going to see Terminator now.

I guess going to see Terminator depends on a couple things. If you want to see pretty good effects, it's not bad at all. If you want to see a good Terminator film, then I wouldn't bother since in a lot of ways, it feels like besides having the same names as characters we know, they don't really do anything. Anton Yelchin is pretty good as Kyle Reese and Sam Worthington's character is interesting though.

But, this could just as easily have been any man vs. robot movie.

At this point I don't think we can really be disappointed with whatever number we end up with :)

Hah...McG is saving Will Smith for his 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea remake.

and why no extra IMAX venues?

Sounds to me that IMAX contracts are signed well in advance, and last-minute changes might be expensive. If they are committed to "Night in the Museum 2" and "Terminator 4", they may not be able to simply drop screenings of those and switch in extra "Star Trek".

Only NATM2 is in IMAX currently, along with the last vestiges of Trek during midnight showings.

Our IMAX still has the midnight showings; but that's a sport for kids...
