I honestly don't know if this will be worth the exorbitant cost to build. Sure, it's gonna have internal lighting, pre-painted, just assemble (with screws, etc.), be about 2' long .... Some quick math has the final cost approaching $1,850 USD. :wtf: Not for the faint of heart.

Having some experience with the Hero Collection (still working on my BTTF Time Machine Delorean), it should be of decent quality and should look pretty good when finished, but will also have some flaws... (The flux capacitor accuracy in the BTTF build is a criminal shame, especially at this price point).

Any takers out there? Thoughts?

It's a bit bigger than the 1/1400 scale kit, but not enough to justify that price to me. I mean I appreciate the other effort going into it, but... eh. Too many other kits around that price point and only slightly smaller you could put a light kit in and make it accurate for under $200.

And I have no good place to put it...
 
I haven't found any mention of what it is mostly made out of. My experience with the Hero Collection is the BTTF build, where 60 - 70% of the build is some type of metal. My Time Machine is about 95% finished and it's become a delicate balance between working position and flipping it around because the thing is HEAVY. If I had to guess, it's probably in excess of 10 lbs. (or much more) !!

I'd expect some metal in the build, an armature or two. I'd also expect plastic for light up bits. I'm just wondering if the overall 'outside surface' will be metal or plastic? At this price point, I'd also expect some 'effects', like going to warp (increase engine brightness) or some such. Why not toss in some sound effects too.... ?

Edited to add: I found that this is going to be mostly metal. Given the size and scale, it's going to weigh quite a bit when finished ...

I don’t plan on getting this (I’m finishing up the DeLorean myself as well) but I am quite interested in seeing photos of the build from anyone who is.
 
It's supposedly 1/1000 scale.
Also supposedly, Polar Lights is stil seriously considering a 1/1000 E-D plastic model kit. I'm told Jamie Hood muttered something like "Yes, we know you guys want one" while announcing the 1/1000 Voyager. The price point on that will likely be around $100, and odds are it'll be more accurate. So I'll be waiting for that. I just hope I live long enough (I'm 63) for PL to get around to it. They don't seem to realize their target audience is aging out.
 
I bit. I love the idea of building the ship, the fact that a good chunk of it is gonna be metal and it'll be nice, heavy, and sturdy. I HATE the price, but if I think of it more like a magazine subscription it's not quite as bad, plus a fun project for me and my son to enjoy. He will be 18 and I'll be 40 by the time we are done with it, but we enjoy doing K'Nex and Lego builds, so a weekly one that just takes maybe half an hour a week should be fine. Plus, while I first started being a Trek fan from the TOS movies, the first series where I got into the characters was TNG. (Although my son first got into it with the JJVerse films, he is a HUGE fan of the first two and likes the third as well)

After watching YouTube videos of the Ecto-1 build, it looks like their models are pretty detailed, and also there's a mod community out there for customization of some minor elements. I'd love something crazy like the All Good Things E-D expansion, but I think that's outside the scope of the modders. Maybe a better looking deflector dish is possible though, or more even lighting on the nacelles. Maybe lighting up the phaser strips or something?

The only kinda sorta bummer I see is that we won't be getting much INSIDE from the looks of it. The ship seperates (with seperate power sources for primary and secondary hulls) but nothing like the inner workings of the cars they have done in the past. It'd be cool to have something like the shuttlebay doors (at least the main one!) being able to open and reveal a small hangar on the inside, a hatch on the bottom opening up to reveal a warp core ejection section (maybe even with a small lit warp core!) or a tiny removable Calypso captains yacht. One can dream, I guess. Still it should be a fun little project to assemble over the next couple years.
 
^ One thing Eaglemoss doesn't put in writing (much) is that once you get going on your subscription, you can call customer service and change how many issues you receive a month. For the longest time, I received 4 issues per month for my BTTF DeLorean. Little over half way in, I started to get really impatient with the time it was taking and called them up. I was told that you can get a maximum of 12 issues per month. I wonder if they'd do the same on the Enterprise-D build? That way, you'd be able to finish in 10 months, not 2+ years. (Assuming one doesn't have a problem shelling out $155 per month.... )

Just adding my two peneth to this thread, but I've subscribed to this kit and overall it's not too bad so far. I do agree on the lack of interior though but I plan to 3D print some custom parts including the main shuttle bay but we'll see how it goes. I will say though the way you have to add the LEDs and and screw them in it a pain in the backside as they keep popping out, seeing as the screws don't hold them in place very well.
 
I had this problem with the BTTF DeLorean build. Gorilla rubber cement works a lot better. Holds it tight, but if you need to replace them in the future it can be (relatively) easily cut loose.
