E-mail provider suggestions

I'm just about fed up with hotmail and I'm looking to switch.

Please, no Google/Gmail, no aol, no Yahoo, or Earthlink suggestions. No pay services; if I had the money, I'd have gone with 1791.com.

Please, no providers that require a phone number or alternative e-mail to verify; I have no phone, and I'm dumping hotmail (one reason: it seems they won't let you send/reply to e-mails if you don't verify, and it's not a browser issue) so I'll be closing those out eventually. Plus, I'm just not giving out a number, or other kinds of certain personal information unless I choose to.

I'm looking around, so far I dont' see a lot of options, though I did just see roadrunner.com (though I've not investigated it).

Apologies if this is the wrong sub forum.

I'm not aware of any provider that does not require some verification or personal information. Even if you pay for email service, you have to give payment information.

You can't hide, anyway. All electronic communication is traceable, and monitored at some level.

Are you planning never to send emails to anyone who uses any of these providers because they get yout information anyway...

I'd also be interested in hearing about any reliable, free, simple interface e-mail providers, if anyone has any actual suggestions. I guess we all know that no e-mail is totally private, but I don't particularly like using a service that wants to own my soul. I recently had to close a couple of accounts that I've had for over fifteen years, because the site is dropping the service. I'd love to find something to replace them.

Yeah, there's a difference between willing provinding information and a site forcing you to provide information.

There's also a difference between reasonable privacy and freely giving up the provacy.

I'd like high-speed porn delivered directly to my brain...but if I'm not willing to pay for it, it ain't happening.

I was fed up with Hotmail asking for verification too...so I set up a second account and used that as the secondary email address for verification. Now I can just ignore that second account and use my primary one at will.

That's not a bad idea (though I've not seen the option to verify with e-mail, only phone). Unless they've gotten wise to that and if you create a new account now, you can't get away with it.

Even if not, you still got to remember to sign in every once in a while so the account doesn't go kaput ('cause you know eventually they'll want you to verify again, like a friend of mine with Craigslist).

I'd still like to move away from hotmail though. I guess I'll have to ask at a computer forum.
