E-E joke at Worf's expense

Shat Happens

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I can't believe this has not been throughoutlly discussed at the time the episode was aired, and most probably I was unable to use the search function

it returns
"Search Results for Query: "Enterprise-E"

The following words were not included in your search because they are too short, too long, or too common: E

so forgive me for bringing up the subject

Obviously a cheap joke because everybody knows Worf is NOT a merry man and I lol'd alright

But don't everyone in that shuttle remember it was Deanna who was piloting the D for few minutes when it crashed? she should get the s#!t for that. And they didn't let her drive the D in PIC

As far as I'm concerned, the Enterprise E was one of the Sovereign class ships we see in the Prodigy finale, where it was either destroyed or so severely damaged they decommissioned it. Yes, I'm aware Matalas tweeted that the E met its fate while on some classified mission, but I'm under no obligation to treat Lord Terry's tweets as canon.

Not true at all. Yes, Deanna was sitting at the helm when the D crashed, but dialogue in the movie makes it clear that Data had taken over flight operations, meaning he was the one piloting when the saucer crashed. But that destroys all the woman driver jokes that have become a thing over the past thirty years.

Considering the alternative of the Enterprise-E being in the -F's place in the narrative, being assimilated and then shot down by its own Starfleet, I think I prefer that they kept it vague and left a chance for it to have a more interesting final mission.

very good point. The other ships we love were safe in the museum.

Prodigy came after Picard, right? what happened? I did not watch it. Does it follow the Worf joke?

It's set several years before Picard, about five years after Nemesis. In the season 1 finale, a fleet of Federation starships is infected by a computer virus that causes them to attack each other. All the ships have the same name on them (every Defiant-class is labeled "Defiant," every Akira-class is labeled "Thunderchild" and so on), but all the Sovereign-class ships in the fleet (and there were many) were labeled "Sovereign" on the saucer but "Enterprise" on the nacelles. It's barely visible in the show, but some people think that means the Enterprise must've been there.

Since the ship would've been shot up while hijacked by a computer virus, it does technically fit with the ship's destruction not being the captain's fault, but also being mildly embarrassing. Still, I think we can do better in terms of a story that fits those constraints.

The joke was pretty lame, and a lousy way to honor the Enterprise-E. Believe it or not, Terry, there are fans out there that actually cared about what happened to the ship, and your dumb joke wasn't even remotely satisfying. Seriously, instead of showing the STO Enterprise-F that nobody gives a crap about, why not show the Ent-E for Frontier Day? And then make the Titan-A the Enterprise-F?

It's incredible how much Worf the character is fit for anything. During TNG S1 he was only there for representing the "former enemies are now allies" thing and for Picard to say "you're a Starfleet Ofiicer" everytime he wanted to fire the phasers.

Later he got drunk with the honor thing which made him vulnerable actually. He loves the thing, so it's really a convolution of a "your mom" joke. A "your honor" joke

Then in 2023 nobody would rather see the E-E in Picard better than the E-D so some explaining was in order, that came coupled with a joke.

I don't know where I want to go with this. I just think hey were talking about Veridian III retconning the utter destruction of the D with Troi in the room and that derailed everything

Anything would have been better than that stupid joke.

The Borg take the Enterprise-E as their flagship, and the TNG crew on the Enterprise-D have to destroy it, which they do, and everyone cheers that the fake ship from the movies everybody hated (give or take FC) is gone forever?

Something about the Enterprise-E lasting 29 years (2372-2401) while the Enterprise-D only lasted 8 years (2363-2371) would've felt wrong to me.

Though yes, even though I got a kick out of the joke, I still do think you have a good point.

I like the Enterprise-E, though not as much as I did back in 1996. I wasn't cheering that it was gone. More a case of after so much time, I'd expect that it would be replaced. I would've been surprised if they weren't already up to the Enterprise-F in Picard.

I'm with you so far.

Well, that would depend on your opinion about the Ent-E being a 'fake ship from the movies everybody hated.' I didn't hate the Enterprise-E. It's not one of my favorite designs, but I liked it. But even if the above happened to the ship, it still would have been better than some offhand stupid joke which tells us nothing about the fate of the ship.

Unfortunately, that's what we have to work with, since the decision was made to destroy the D because they wanted a new ship for the films. Under other circumstances, the ship would have lasted longer. Heck, it was still around with an extra nacelle in AGT, and that was 31 years!

Yeah, my enthusiasm for the E has also waned over time, but I liked it enough to want to have some closure for the ship besides a dumb joke about it.

I can see why they had the E-F instead of the E-E... They would have been on the hook for reasonably recreating the E-E bridge for the scenes with Shelby. Plus it would steal the thunder from the E-D bridge reveal later in the episode.

If they wanted the E-E and the E-D, they'd almost have to introduce the E-E in "Imposters" in place of the Intrepid to also have the E-D reveal at the end of "Vox".
