e-book international limitations question

Anyone know how to get around e-book limitations on international purchase? I have a friend who needs a book and can't access it because he's in Australia. I'm sure I've heard there is some way around this.

Well without circumventing copy/region protection, assuming the e-book isn't available in his home country. I believe we used to use something called a book.
