I’ve recently finished the novels Maximum Warp and Dyson Sphere which both deal with very powerful pieces of technology. In Dyson Sphere, it’s the Sphere that encases an entire star, with the inside surface being habitable allowing trillions of lifeforms to live within in comfort, and in Maximum Warp, another spherical device is discovered that is said to be able to travel to other dimensions and has the ability to contract the multiverse back to before its form before the Big Bang. Essentially a device like the anti-matter cannon from Crisis of Infinite Earths with the ability to destroy universes.
There is also another book called, the Body Electric where another device is discovered that takes planets from one place in the galaxy via a wormhole to it and devours it. There it’s implied that the technology is like that of V’Ger, connecting them.
What if all these technologies are connected and the various writers have unknowingly been setting up a “super race” (a type IV civilization as Spock says in Maximum Warp) which could be some new threat somewhere down the line?
They could be Star Trek’s version of the Ancients from the Stargate franchise as it’s also implied in the Dyson Sphere novel is that they could have invented subspace. A domain of space that is essential for space travel in the Trek universe. There is also another implied link in Maximum Warp that the technology of the Sphere could be related to the Guardian of Forever; another powerful time travel device, which in the Q Continuum trilogy series, is implied to have been created by the ancestors who later became the Q. Another similarity to that of the Ancients with them ascending.
Maybe not all of them did become Q and some of them are still around. These aliens could be the most powerful, and perhaps the deadliest beings in multiple galaxies. They could be an interesting foe for some later Star Trek series. Maybe for the Enterprise J.
