Duras/Mogh Switch

An odd thought popped into my head a few days ago: What if the roles of the House of Mogh and House of Duras were reversed?

The attack on Khitomer was orchistrated by Mogh, whilst Duras and his family were there, with all but his eldest daughter, Lursa, being killed in the attack. She would then be rescued by the Intrepid, raised on Earth by human parents, enter Starfleet, go on to serve on the Enterprise-D, then reunite with her lost sister B'Etor. All whilst Worf and Kurn plot and scheme with the Romulans to overthrow the Empire.

Am I alone in thinking Lieutenant Lursa would be great to watch (especially as she faces off against the eldest Son of Mogh to restore her family honour)?

"What's in a name? that which we call a rose.
By any other name would smell as sweet;"

Unless we think a female Worf -- which is pretty much what we're discussing here -- would behave dramatically differently than the male Worf we followed through eleven seasons of Star Trek, I tend to think events would unfold pretty much the same.

What really might have been compelling is if Kurn's character had been female. Part of what allowed him to accumulate so much power, as the Son of Lorgh, was his gender, and it's also what allowed him to serve on the High Council once the House of Mogh was restored...

Had Kurn been female, the ways in which her power was attained and wielded (if it was) would make for a more compelling backstory, and could change a lot about the stories we saw unfold.

I don't think I could feast my eyes on Lursa's face for 7 seasons of TNG, 4 seasons of DS9 and 4 TNG movies. I could always feast my eyes on something else. Not that people are concerned about such things in the 24th century.

Well, if that happened then this thread might have been worded as such:

The attack on Khitomer was orchistrated by Ja'rod, whilst Mogh and his family were there, with all but his eldest son, Worf, being killed in the attack. He would then be rescued by the Intrepid, raised on Earth by human parents, enter Starfleet, go on to serve on the Enterprise-D, then reunite with his lost brother Kurn. All whilst Lursa and B'Etor plot and scheme with the Romulans to overthrow the Empire.

;)

I would have found it more intriguing if Worf had found his father has been guilty of the massacre and had been working with the Romulans. His ideals and belief system would been shaken.

^ That would be an interesting premise -- especially since Worf's own sense of honor and ethics often puts him at odds with the empire and cost him dearly over the years. I wonder what the knowledge that Mogh had similarly deviant views -- always with a good reason of course -- would to to Worf. I'm sure that would create a lot of introspection.

Depends on where you stand on nature versus nurture. Whether Lursa could ever have grown up to act with integrity, or whether a different environment would have made Worf a plotting, scheming backstabber.
