Still, this [DDO going free] would be enough to lure me back to it if I didn't already have WoW and LOTRO to play around with.

Yeah...about that...

I've been playing it with one of my best friends (and, once he finally gets Stormreach downloaded, my other best friend), and it's pretty good. Sure, it's frustrating when I pick up a quest that sounds pretty cool, and then I find out that I have to pay for it, but it's still as fun as it ever has been, and significantly better than at launch.

Has anyone else been playing the game at all? And on Khyber? We could use a low level Cleric for our group. We've got a level 3 rogue, level 4 fighter/meatshield, and soon an around-that-level barbarian, but no healers so far. >.< Ah well. And trust me, it's much better with a regular group of people that you like hanging out with, just like D&D itself. ;)

One frustration that I have is that you have to buy an item/get lucky in a drop to reach level 5, but since that's dramatically more work than level 5 in most MMOs, it's not that big a deal. If I don't get the rare drop while I'm going through level 4, I'll buy it; it'll be around $2 at most, not even that. And I love the combat system and character customization that this game offers; it's the most in-depth that I've seen in an MMO so far.

So, thoughts and idears?

You can get it here.

The small convenience fee is what they're hoping is tolerable enough to get you to buy the item. To be honest, I'd probably tolerate that more than spending a monthly fee on a game I may not play all the time.

As for this game, I haven't tried it yet... I've promised myself that I'll try the Shin Megami Tensei MMO first before anything else.

I just downloaded it yesterday and tried it out. I'm a sorcerer on Khyber called Dunmundoion. Say hi when you see me. :)

I played the game briefly a couple of years ago. It was fun, but there didn't seem to be enough content to justify the monthly fee. It's a game I planned on playing again if it ever went f2p.

I'll look at creating a character on Khyber once the client has finished patching. I'll probably pop on occasionally for a couple of hours.

I played 3 or 4 hours on Friday, it was run of the mill MMO, but I had fun. Plus it's FREE!!!!

I've been playing on the Cannith server with a friend of mine. We both find it to be moderately diverting and worth the price of free.

I just tried it out for the hell of it last night. I rolled a cleric on some other realm, but if it helps your group, I'll roll another on yours.

I probably won't play too much but I'll jump in when I can.

This is free? What?

There's a catch here, right?
Basically, it's a "pay and you get cool stuff". There's no subscription, but you can pay to get (reasonably decent, but not awe-inspiring) gear, some truly awesome adventures, various consumables, such a rez cake (I'm kicking myself for buying that and then dying ~5 minutes later. >.<), and a lot of other stuff.

So it's not really "free". You can play for free, but there's a lot of content, especially once you get past level 4, that you pay to get (or get for free if you do subscribe), and you will have to pay to get past every 4th level.

I'll try to get everyone who's replied on Khyber on my friend's list. :)
